Well it appears that they are taking the right steps forward. Two experienced producers, with one of them with a link to the franchise.
If The Sun is to be believed âthey want filming to be done on Bond 26 by the end of next year so that it can be out in 2027.â Things would start happening very fast with plenty for us to discuss. A new Bond could be sooner than we think if they already presented possible candidates to Barbara before the acquisition went down.
Hasnât there been another piece - Guardian? - claiming had there been an obvious candidate for Broccoli it would already have been going forward before the sale? Seems obvious they already chewed the fat over a few names. But thatâs been studio execs and now Pascal and Heyman probably ought to be the ones to decide.
But if so, the downside then would be: whoever gets chosen probably wasnât a strong enough candidate to convince Broccoli, no? That neednât mean a lot, mind you. But if itâs a shaky start it would likely raise its head in the aftermath.
Whoever it is, I wish them luck.
But it could as well mean that there simply was a different take on what kind of leading man both parties wanted. Eon is not exactly known for casting solid A-listers as Bond. Someone who wonât cost a fortune from the start, but with options on a salary development according to success.
But with Scrooge McDuckâs money bin behind them, the Bezoes may want a big name. Theyâve got the Bond feather on their cap, and now they want to show off big time. 250 million quid, and there arenât even any marketing deals in it (one should think).
Our football club has been bought by some sheik, and heâs not going to look for unknown talents in the 2nd Belgian league and develop them. Heâll want his new business asset to shine with big names, and he wants it now.
With Amy Pascal youâre definitely going to start hearing Tom Hollandâs name a lot.
Pascal has more than earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Bond. Sheâs already helped to usher in a successful reboot of the franchise with an all-time classic Bond film and supported Broccoli with the choice of Craig, which was controversial at the time.
Iâd be happy if this gets signed off on. Itâs a credible team and would give me confidence.
I thought that too, but ultimately I donât think it matters. A Bond film is going to be made in the short term and I think one should be made. Waiting around another ten years for another crop of actors isnât a good alternative for the franchise either, and you could very well be in the same position or even worse. Iâm sure thereâs somebody out there who can do the job. Broccoli may have reached the end of the road with Craig but the character goes on.
I could imagine EONâs problem in finding a new actor was closely tied to their reluctance to find one and actually move the next film along.
And frankly, I just donât think one cannot find a suitable candidate when replacements were usually found within two years.
One can second guess oneself into indecisiveness, and in creative endeavours you often have to just pull the trigger.
Tom Holland would be a terrible Bond.
And a terrible Nathan Drake, but that didnât stop them.
If they were really going for some generic, big-name, box-office safe name, then Iâd expect Pattinson. Possibly in a stunt deal to buy him out of Batman.
While the possibility certainly remains that they will go for a fairly well known name for Bond, having Pascal on board to help run this new franchise has me more confident that they wonât be afraid to look at more unconventional choices, given Pascalâs involvement with the Craig films.
Regardless, this is great news if it ends up happening. Amazon could have severely botched their first test with the Bond franchise, but if this is who theyâre going to get to lead Bond into a new era, theyâve passed their first test with flying colors.
Yes , true. Fillion as Drake was a no brainer.
Jack Lowden fits the bill for me.
Heâd be my pick, too - but Iâd hate losing River Cartwright from Slow Horses. Heâd fit perfectly if they went for a âlighterâ, less brooding Bond.
Absolutely. Cubby himself showed the way when the Brosnan deal fell through and he brought in Dalton. The show goes on. He was in the business of making James Bond movies.
Jeff Sneider is the journalist who broke the Pascal/Heyman news on Puck.
On March 6th, through his paid newsletter (so we canât read it), he first mentioned Heyman and added that Heyman wanted to bring on Alfonso Cuaron, whom he worked with on HARRY POTTER and GRAVITYâŚ
If you havnt already seen it, Fillion in a fan film Uncharted is MUCH better than the official film.
Suspect they might give an avatar of Connery a go and see if that works. Theyâve enough money to try it, one understands.
