Bond’s Literary News

There were spiders in the tube, but I have zero doubt which of the 2 scenes he was thinking about when thinking of famous moments from Dr. No, especially with that hand holding it.

Gillette likes mixing literary and film aesthetics; his previous covers were female-themed and the titles often seemed projected onto the shapes. The Man with the Golden Gun even used a very similar font to that of the film’s poster campaign. And his Tracy seems to wear Diana Rigg’s wedding dress - but, true to the book, she’s a blonde.

I don’t mind it, the covers are still a great design and will no doubt appeal to collectors.

From IFP:

We have a confession, and apology, to make.

In our last missive we made a mistake, wrongly attributing the quote ‘The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success’ to Ian Fleming, when in fact the credit for this line lies with screenwriter Bruce Feirstein, who worked on GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and a half-dozen James Bond video games. Our sincerest apologies go to Mr. Feirstein for this error.

In Feirstein’s own words: ‘On one hand, I’m flattered that people think Ian Fleming wrote that line. But on the other, for me, he remains the master. There is no Bond without him’.

To our agents in the field,

Today sees the UK paperback publication of Kim Sherwood’s fantastic A Spy Like Me, a fast-paced, globe-trotting thriller that follows a group of elite Double O agents as they race to stop a deadly terrorist plot and track down James Bond. Agents based stateside shouldn’t feel too left out however, as the new audio productions of Ian Fleming’s Octopussy and the Living Daylights performed by Ben Willbond, The Man With the Golden Gunperformed by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Thunderball performed by Robert Glenister are all now out in the US. They are available for purchase from all major US audiobook retailers, and will be released in the UK in early 2025.

For those of you in Canada, Australia or New Zealand, some good news – Ian Fleming Publications now offers delivery to these countries, so if you’ve been eyeing up a boxset edition of the Ian Fleming paperbacks, or perhaps a signed copy of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, don’t hesitate. Please note that shipping rates are set by the distributor, and are determined by weight.

Speaking of Chitty, something rather wonderful passed over my desk recently – a group known as the ‘Mad Men’ have made a working replica of the iconic film version of Chitty, and have been taking her on a grand adventure through the Alps as part of a campaign to encourage men to get checked for prostate cancer. You can learn more about their process of building Chitty on their website here, and see updates on their journey here.

As Q has yet to supply me with my own flying car (despite repeated requests), it seems I’ll be keeping my wheels on the ground for the foreseeable.

Sincerely,

200x50

Miss Moneypenny

I’m intrigued. What do people here think the announcement is?

Hopefully the announcement of a new JAMES BOND novel–remember him?

But undoubtedly more likely something along the lines of the first 500 or 1,000 orders will get a signed edition.

Could be a few things:

A title reveal for Kim Sherwood’s third Double 00 book.
More details on the Q Mysteries.
Another Spinoff?
Hopefully though as @Double-OhAgent said a new JAMES BOND novel. Hopefully set in modern day.

I’m hoping for one (or honestly all of these). Of course it depends on the spinoff character of choice.

In all likelihood. I haven’t been impressed with the literary side of things for a while. I just can’t get excited about constant re-releases of the books, and I completely oppose the idea of the edited editions. The only thing that’s going to make me sit up and pay attention is new content about the man himself, James Bond. Not other agents or side characters like Q.

Same here. Completely agree. Although Anthony Horowitz did fine work during his run.

Someone’s gone and accidentally inserted all the racism back in. Tchoh! You only had one job.

I could see his novels getting a similar treatment one day as the originals are now. Just not edited.

Maybe it’ll be an announcement where they tell us that they’re removing James Bond from the “James Bond” novels and replacing him with either Q or Moneypenny.

IFP has already done that with Moneypenny. Next year, Q will get the same treatment. Running away from MI6 like Bond does often.

The next novel will be a road trip adventure where Q and Moneypenny race across Europe to save M from the clutches of Ernst Stavro Oberhauser.

Here’s your big Tuesday announcement:

They’re releasing a limited run of the Casino Royale hardcover “that looks dipped in silver.”

That’s it.

Carry on.

Now here I was hoping it was dipped in Venz chocolate sprinkles…
