Joseph Wiseman was the first and he remains one of the best. The look is iconic. A white uniform with black mechanical hands. And his emotionless persona is highly effective.
Bond’s relationship with Tatiana is the most heartfelt from the Connery era, IMO, because an outlandish trap becomes something real. The scenes with them on board the train are just great.
Thunderball’s plot gets my vote given the global threat it provides, and I think Thunderball is Connery at his peak in terms of performance. Goldfinger’s pre-titles and main titles are works of art.
I do love Dr No - for his emotionless persona and that voice.
But I just picked Blofeld from FRWL ahead of him, because it’s only the voice we get to hear. What we do see is that evil villains like Klebb and Kronsteen are utterly terrified of him.
Favourite villain: Goldfinger (c’mon, nobody tops Goldfinger)
Favourite leading lady: Domino Der Val (I love Claudine Auger and Tracy wasn’t in a Connery film)
Favourite villain’s scheme: You Only Live Twice
Favourite henchperson: Red Grant (tough though to pick between him and Oddjob)
Favourite Connery performance: Goldfinger (Connery at his most suave and cool)
Favourite title song: Diamonds Are Forever (YOLT is a close second and again OHMSS is not an option)
Favourite score: Thunderball (gotta love the 007 theme)
Favourite pre-titles: Goldfinger
Favourite main titles: You Only Live Twice
