[Octopussy rant - why is Bond not sent straight to Berlin to investigate? There can’t be that many circuses there and a 00 has just been murderated. No, that’s fine, you swan off to an auction. Off you go. Why does Operation Trove evidently have no developed remit and just gets abandoned the moment Bond steals a lovely chucky-egg? Does SIS have no oversight committee? Who budgeted and project-planned Operation Trove? What do they think about it? Why are Orlov and Khan selling famous jewels through the most famous auction house on the sodding planet? Do they think the Russians won’t notice? What’s Khan in it for other than the jewels and what use can he make of them - sell them? See previous point.
