Thank you very much for your effort.
The LLL presentation of the whole LTK score is excellent.
It brings out the huge canvas on which Kamen painted a masterpiece, combining the Bond theme in so many, often very subtle variations, with terrific new themes and his own action oriented style.
In the movie mix a lot of this got lost, on the original release it didn‘t even feature or was muddled together in the suites.
This is now an almost new score for my ears, and I can absolutely recommend it.
I’ve been enjoying the TB soundtrack lately, and I have my fingers crossed for a 60th anniversary release by La La Land this year. TB has so much bombastic energy and a sense of urgency, reminiscent of early albums like With The Beatles. This is mixed in with the classy ambience of the TB instrumental, Cafe Martinique and the Switching the Bodies theme which is perfect for sneaking around. Just a very cool soundtrack that is peak 1960s and classic James Bond.
Yes I would really love to see an expanded Thunderball soundtrack as there is still roughly 20 - 25 minutes that could not be fitted on the 2003 single CD because of space & they only allowed to do a single CD release at the time.It would also be good to have it in film order fingers crossed ![]()

The guy who did the remasters in 2002 told right then that some of the stuff which was used for the 20 minutes Thunderball suite on the 30th very best double cd couldn’t be used anymore because of the bad state the original tape was in.
I hope that’s untrue, just like the Moonraker tapes were lost myth. Surely at least those long suites can be cut down into individual cues, ordered in the sequence of the film. Even that would help a lot.
It’s not a myth like the Moonraker one, he told this in that famous interview where he was explaining why there were no more bonus tracks on the other cd’s besides TB, YOLT, OHMSS, YOLT, DAF and LALD.
LLL are absolute pros, they know how to handle that problem.
This is not in the hands of 20th century medicine any more. It should be possible to restore those tapes by now. Hope they were clever enough to make copies of those tapes back then, before more deterioration happened.
I realy hope so, but is gone not definitive gone?
They didn’t say they were gone, they said they were in a bad state.
Even most of the material lost on the Universal Studio fire is not “gone”.
By “gone” I also meant that the recording tape is destroyed/half-destroyed and that it can no longer be used.
By now, there should be methods to read out those tapes without the need of running them through an old fashioned tape machine and prevent further damage.
I’d like to know what the situation is with the end credits music. Apparently the cue that Barry arranged (present on the soundtrack) was used for VHS editions, while the original James Bond Theme is placed over the top for just about every home release thereafter. The soundtrack edition is my preference. Such an epic sound and way to end the film, especially when you see it synched up against the visuals.
Every 35mm print I’ve ever seen of Thunderball has ended with the original “James Bond Theme” recording. This goes for old, grungy worn prints, Tarantino’s own IB-Tech print and everything in between. I can’t explain it. Of course I prefer Barry’s own composition, which is what I was most familiar with from the first widesceen Laser Disc. Hearing the change on video in 1995 was startling and even more startling when the prints had the theme.
Last evening I got from the mail another MR and Golden Gun cd from LLL and including the replacement disc. Thank you LLL.
Now waiting for my LTK order. I just paid the tax stuff this afternoon so I expect the cd in a couple of days.
You’ll be very happy - LLL´s version of LTK is absolutely eye-opening (ear?).
I look forwarth listen to it, especially the gunbarrel and all the JB theme versions. Maybe it’s not the best Bondscore ever, but Kamen did a good job with the JB theme. It already sound excellent on the original cd, so with the LLL remastering it will be fantastic I suppose?
The sound - but most of all, the whole additional material which had not been available before. It really made me love this score whereas before I never really could enjoy it that much.
You’re in for a treat!
Received the LTK Lala Land cd last week. Wow! It’s incredible, realy fantastic!
What a great overall score! I knew I already liked Kamen’s version of the gunbarrel and the complete JB theme, but I didn’t know I would like the complete score so much! It’s so much better than one expects it will be. If only they didn’t put those two mediocre songs on the original album and instead ot them two more score tracks, how much better would have been the original album in 1989, because there was so much to choose from. Realy realy glad I bougth this new one.
