Future Bond Directors

That was quick!

I support Nolan directing, but I’d rather contemporary over a period piece. I’d be wondering where our Bond of today is, and what he should/would be doing. I love retro as much as anyone but things have to move forward, and with product placement I doubt going back to the past would be allowed anyway. Keep the 50s/60s alive in the Dynamite graphic novel adaptions.

He was never going to do period. The whole story reeked of just chucking in loads of rumours into a blender. Nolan, two parter, period piece, Risico, loyal to Fleming. All things that turn up on a regular basis in regards to Bond.

Honestly you’d just need to think what the things Nolan blatantly stole from Bond are to call bull, they’re all things from Eon’s Bond, rarely Fleming’s.

Has any director been rumoured for Bond 26 other that the ones below?

  • Christopher Nolan: probably the most likely at this pont in time
  • Denis Villeneuve: he likes Bond and I’m sure EON likes him, but he will be very busy in the next couple of years with other projects
  • Matthew Vaughn: EON probably did meet him years ago but I doubt they are considering him for Bond 26
  • Cary Joji Fukunaga: as MaxCasino wrote, he is very likely out of the picture because of the allegations
  • Paul Greengrass: probably fake rumour
  • Danny Boyle: probably fake rumour
  • Phoebe Waller-Bridge: definitely fake rumour, as far as I know she has never directed anything apart from a music video maybe
  • Martin Campbell: probably not, considering his age and wanting to leave a high point
  • Sam Mendes: Skyfall is still pretty popular, although there was definitely tension on SP in more ways than one apparently. Plus, he has more awards for artsy movies since then. I could see him being on EON’s call list.

A period piece would be the death of Bond. He’s always been of his time and it should stay that way. And given the amount of time the current regime at EON has spent asking whether or not Bond is relevant in their own films, taking Bond back to the 50s or 60s answers that question in a very negative way.

As Cubby was fond of saying: “Five minutes into the future.” - Not seven decades into the past.

Brannagh as director and M?

He’s not exactly adverse to acting in his own films.

It seems to have worked for Mr. Eastwood.

Branagh does seem to understand the balance of such tasks IMO.
