Looking greatly forward to this!
Looks/sounds interesting.
Ken Spoon Lives!
Definitely buying this.
Hopefully the book is worthwhile because the subject matter interests me a lot. Fleming is the king but thereās a good bunch of continuation novels I enjoyed reading. They kept the brand alive just as much as the films.
I agree with you 100%. I wish people wouldnāt be so critical of the continuation novel authors. If we didnāt get them, people would complain about where they were. Sometimes I want to read a book by a one-off author. Iād take this over Richard Maibaum criticizing others for not following his ego words the way he thought they should be. Or knowing that Purvis and Wade will have Bond leave MI6 at some point. Continuation authors can make the writing in Bond feel fresh. Itās time for people to realize this.
Again⦠Really?
Sorry stressful day. I just like having a fresh writer at certain times. I am grateful for all writers, honestly. However, some of them stick around longer than they need too. Same could be said about John Gardener, honestly.
After more than a decadeās wait, Talk of the Devil is finally available to the non-millionaires!
According to Queen Anne Press:
Hitherto, this collection of Ian Flemingās journalism, various non-fiction items and a couple of unseen short stories has only been available as part of the Complete Works. Many of you have asked when there will be a standalone version. Well, the answer is now! We have taken some 220 of the original book blocks and bound them in two editions: Regular and Special. The Regulars are ready ā and mighty handsome they are too.
Order here. I know what Iām getting myself for Christmas!
I just bought the last one on Amazon. They only had the HC and with all costs it was 89,31 euro, which is a lot of money.
So guys, if it sucks you know what that means:
I will send Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd after you.
Also bought āA Close Look at āA View to a Killāā paperback.
Iām very curious, because I think itās one of the least Bond films. There is no momentum at all in the story, which just drags on. MI6 consists only of members who look old and exhausted, especially compared to the super fit villain duo Walken and Jones.
AVTAK has a lot going for it which reveals itself only in the long run. This book is very helpful in uncovering that.
Iād like to give that a read. As the last film of his tenure it would be an interesting contrast to Rogerās LALD diary, which I am giving another look. Itās fun, but I appreciate the moments of serious insight Roger provided - such as the media machine of the franchise, doing copious interviews and still photos. āThe pressure of being Bond grows daily. Not in playing the part, but in being the actor playing the part. How much time am I going to spend actually acting?ā
Certainly looks nice, but Iāll wait until thereās a version available for less than 750 Eurosā¦
First of all, where was this during the 60th anniversary year?
Second, if they sold every copy of the various editions it would be $2,380,254 in sales. Is there that much interest in a behind the scenes book of Dr. No?
Third, seriously though - where was this during the 60th anniversary year!?
The price is ridiculous.
Also, will it really cover anything worthwhile Duncan has not already put in the Taschen-Archives?
Shame on Taschen for not offering a realistically priced edition. They did the same with the book on ROCKY.
Who is their target audience? Millionaires?
Whatās disturbing me most about this is ā⦠and edited by EON Productions.ā
I prefer my Bond books to be written by an independent author and certainly not edited by Eon. All we get is āofficial historyā which may in some cases be, but most of the time is not the same as āreal historyā. Itās PR journalism, an overblown press release, which comes at a hefty price. Pictures look nice, though.
I still remember what a revelation it was when Cinema published the Steve Rubin book - and what awesome stuff there was in that tome. Compare to this The Official James Bond Movie Book, Eonās 25th Anniversary Edition. A terribly bland collection of well known stills and little else, offering no trace of the wealth of information Rubin provided a decade earlier.
Whenever thereās a chance to lay your hands on an independently written account, go for it. The official version youāll be able to browse on the net any time you want to look it up.
Pffff!! I was very excited⦠before I saw the price.
I fell for it last summer with their Ken Adam book, which was also ridiculous (and actually a bit regrettable), but if I did it again now, I would feel like an idiot.
Donāt get me wrong, if it were a book about Moonraker, I would be crazy enough to buy it, but for Dr. No Iāll grab my Cinema Retro magazine again!
PS: As usual the 007 store even asks more not 750, but 897,95.
There are also even more expensive versions: 2 art editions for almost 1000 euro more.
