Movies: Presumably 2024, maybe Beyond

Perfect opportunity to ask a stupid question I’ve long had - why do studios pay for A-list talent to voice animated movies? The kids don’t know who they are and the parents aren’t watching the movie if they don’t have to…

I suppose it’s the promo campaign they are thinking of. The big names guarantee the slots in the late night and talk formats where these productions are kicked on the market, And it’s a win-win for the A-list, they are having fun and get exposure with a family-friendly production.

Same with dubbing in the foreign markets. Germany has by now a pool of comedians and singers who are eager for these jobs and do the promotion campaign quite willingly.

If this is true: thank god the producers safed us from something original! I guess they didn´t bother themself with a new script and just used the one from 1994…or 2005…or 2015… thats like the Joker would have been in the first 4 Batman movies :exploding_head:

Sure, a shameless money grubbing, a personal expletive from Winkler to Stallone and another „capitalizing“ as they say so themselves of this brand.

But being completely surprised by the greatness of part 3 I am looking forward to this.

I also loved Creed III. Truth is, I think the entire Rocky franchise has been incredibly consistent in terms of (high) quality. Yes, I’d even include the oft-maligned Rocky V in that assessment (I shared elsewhere on these forums my numerous reasons for enjoying that one).

This 4th Creed installment might be released on the 50th anniversary year of the original Rocky film – this could be a great opportunity to end the series with a bang. (Beyond one more film, I’d be too afraid that they won’t be able to maintain the quality of these films, so I’d rather they not push their luck.)

I really don’t see how much more they can chew that particular gummy. Ludlum’s originals were only so vaguely interesting after the first one with the amnesia and battle-of-the-titans both ripped from the Bond sphere. The films turned the concept on its head - but how often are people going to pay to see the same crowd of shady career bureaucrats fold ops by burying folks and getting kicked for it by Bourne? Who cares about it any more?

Only the studios think this is a good idea.

Because… IP.

That’s the sole reason to make „new“ content now.

I highly doubt that another Jason Bourne movie will work for mass audiences. But I absolutely believe it will get made for a huge budget.

You’d think the failures of everything they’ve tried to do with the property after The Bourne Ultimatum would’ve been a hint…

In my view Bourne as a property just doesn’t offer enough substance for it to be interesting beyond what’s already out there. The first few films had that vague idea of somebody coming to terms with guilt while past deeds resurface in slices. A flimsy enough excuse for several hours of stunts and action, but it carried for a while.

What it lacks is somebody to care about, both for Bourne and the audience. Since Marie went into the freezer there’s nobody that would motivate the whole effort. Ludlum wisely kept that angle and even expanded on it in his last Bourne with a family the older hero has to protect. That’s one of the few elements I still recall after 30+ years since reading it.

In contrast, I remember next to nothing about the films story-wise beyond the twist in the third.
