Movies: Presumably 2024, maybe Beyond

Big time for IP shopping again…

And, of course, reheating inhuman torture and slicing off body parts is cooler than ever.

Sony owning the character probably makes that situation complicated.

Then the producer on those films has a more important job now…

And the next…

Really looking forward to this one:

I would strongly recommend Black Bag to every Bond fan out there.

Brosnan in particular delivers a stand out performance.

It’s a lot of fun. Absolute shame more films like it aren’t released. This would’ve killed at the box office fifteen years ago.

Agreed,

At the risk of sounding downright controversial, almost heretical. Brosnan would make a perfect M, much like Dench.

Beyond its intricate and compelling plot, something sorely missing from Bond films over the past decade Black Bag is every bit as stylish and seductive as the Bond films of old.

She makes lots of valid points: especially on the different and extremely devaluating approaches towards movies the streamers impose.

And if that’s the future of moviemaking („second screen“, employing AI to „customize“ film classics with your face) people who love visual storytelling can pack it in.

Will be interesting to see how this one does at the box office. According to the article, it will need to take in over a billion dollars just to break even.

As I understand, parts of it were filmed with the last installment during the height of the pandemic, so that drove up the costs immensely.

To finish it they apparently still had to go to enormous lengths.

Even if it performs well it can only recoup its costs in the long run as a catalogue title.

I think we can truly count Sam Mendes out as the Bond 26 director.

I’m somewhat surprised that this wasn’t posted yet. That might REALLY be a sign that more and more people are tuning out of the MCU.

Apparently, this isn’t the full cast. Some salaries are still being worked out.

I’m still interested in the Spider-Man and Avengers teamups in the MCU. But Robert Downey Jr. could ruin his Iron Man legacy if this fails.

I am still interested in Spider-Man and his cinematic future, MCU or not. Just not his villain spin-offs.

Will there still be enough Beatles fans in 2028 eager to watch four films in the cinema?

Looking at the market right now, with no hope for consolidation, this project will be a massive money loser. The target audience will wait and watch on a streamer, if at all.

I don’t want them made, and I know many other Beatles fans feel the same. I think the story is best left to their music, original footage and the mystique of their era. Exploring that stuff and reading books is the best way to be a fan in my opinion. There’s the risk of over saturation, and even with four films I don’t think you can capture the nuances of their mythology, or even their humour and chemistry.

I know Mendes is a fan and feels like celebrating something he loves, but we really don’t need this. The legacy is perfect as is - I was even nervous about Now and Then being added (I don’t mind it, even though I still prefer Lennon’s demo which is pretty fantastic). For many people this will be their first and perhaps defining impression of the four guys, and if it’s overdramatised, sanitised or just not ‘right’, that will be unfortunate.

One film would have been enough already - and still wobbly, especially after all the documentaries (and Jackson’s very extensive GET BACK) covered all the ground.

Yes, Mendes is a great director, and he must have some good reasons to see this through. But even the casting seems off. It just all screams “vanity project” to me. Tons of money are getting poured into this, just because it can be easily sold due to the “brand awareness”.

Bingo. The Beatles are just another iteration of IP.

That is just funny.

As long as the three movies are in theaters, I’ll be at least partly happy. Speaking of movies not going to theaters, I’m surprised that this isn’t (as of now).

I wouldn’t be surprised if QT fights for a theatrical release. I swear this is NOT an April Fool’s joke.
Also, in honor of his birthday last week here are the top 5 Books that I hope QT writes.

  1. Double V Vega (book or graphic novel).
  2. Kill Bill Vol. 3 (as a book, movie or video game, and as long as Uma Thurman is involved).
  3. The Films of Rick Dalton (book).
  4. Reservoir Dogs (novelization or stage play).
  5. Django in White Hell (book).

The man does have more projects than he realizes.
