Movies: Presumably 2025, maybe Beyond

At the time Gunn was brought in Marvel seemed to be going strong, and, of course, WB wanted to start fresh.

Now, if his Superman does not work it will be interesting how they proceed.

I wish this would have come out this weekend. Here’s hoping to the future.

They absolutely have. There’s no point in releasing something that is quite literally pointless when the big reboot of DC is just around the corner. It wouldn’t have been the first time they ditched a movie so it could be a tax write off.

We couldn’t see the BATGIRL movie, because…reasons, but another crappy AQUAMAN movie and whatever that BLUE BEETLE movie was, that’s fine to send out there to further increase the stench that permeates the recent slate of DC films.

Star Wars has no future. Every project is set in its own past and that’s all the fanbase seems to want.

I can only assume that cancelling a blockbuster intended for theatrical release is more difficult than cancelling a streaming project. I’m sure many key players would have back end deals that depend on a cinema release and could result in legal action if it were scrapped.

Was Batgirl not a theatrical release? I always assumed it was.

It started as an HBO max movie, but when they were able to convince Michael Keaton and JK Simmons to reprise their roles they tried to up the scale for a theatrical release, then the reality tv people took over from the cell phone company and started burning anything HBO Max for seemingly no other reason than HBO Max was AT&T’s big thing.

Well, The First Omen at least looks better than Exorcist: Believer, so it has that much going for it, I guess. Then again, a double-feature of Watching Paint Dry and Watching Paint Dry 2: Dry Harder would be more thrilling than that last Exorcist film, so I guess that’s not much praise to throw in the direction of the new Omen film.

Hopefully it turns out well. It would be nice to see one of these classic horror franchises not be completely ruined by a modern day filmmakers messing with them.

Those are the most anticipated films this year?

Yeah, looks like I’ll be spending a lot more time at home this year.

The only one in there I’m genuinely looking forward to is Kevin Costner’s “Horizon.”

I always knew 2024 was going to be a light year for cinema going for me. It was very considerate for the studios to release so many skippable movies. 3 Sony Spider-Man adjacent films that I have no interest in? You’re spoiling me.

In all seriousness, 2023 was the shake-up but 2024 is too soon for any kind of shift so it’s more of the same.

So, like Star Trek now starting from TV? But with a tired and already overextended premise?

Hey. Don’t knock its selling points.

Soooo…Star Wars since inception?

What about the other projects that Lucasfilm announced? Rian Johnson’s Trilogy, Patty Jenkins’ Rouge Squadron, Taika Waititi’s film, and even Lando? Lucasfilm needs to plan things out better before announcing them. Every Star Wars movie announcement has me excited for more! Realistically, I’ll believe it when I see the movie(s).

Frankly, I don’t see the appeal of Star Wars these days. The comics and possibly some of the novels seem vastly more daring in their approach and possible branching out. I remember an Imperial agent paired with a - female? - robot, a storyline in the distant past of the Jedi, a criminal syndicate operating between Empire and rebellion, and lots of other stuff happening away from the tired same-same of the core cast of characters.

Mandalorian too was a lot more interesting before it got bogged down in its own premise. I didn’t even bother to watch the latest season since it didn’t seem to offer anything new or interesting.
