Movies: Presumably 2025, maybe Beyond

I seem to recall Endgame actually changed its time travel mechanism mid filming so had to reshoot loads to make it all fit, hard not to imagine the multi-verse rules will bring up the same issues.

And as Cumberbatch says: with Marvel it´s always new stuff every morning…

Well, that’s how they roll.

I once remember the author-who-shall-not-be-named stating that halfway through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire they had to basically scrap everything and start over because of a one thread not working. Apparently, ASOIAF is taking forever because of how utterly complex the narrative is. The MCU is an absolutely intricate and confusing mess. I’m sure messing with time travel and multiverse shenanigans are making things really hard.

I’m a big comic fan. I used to read the monthly issued but periodically stop following when all of the big ‘events’, crossovers and time resets etc. made it too complex and confusing to follow (unless you’re reading x amount of titles that you’re really not interested in just to know what the hell’s happening). Now I just cherry pick what to read, which is becoming less and less, and think to hell with the context and keeping fully up to date.

If Marvel are now creating this kind of mess in their cinama/TV ‘universes’ that they’re tangling themselves up, maybe they should take a step back.
The MCU used to be relatively easy to follow whilst maintaining a satisfying level of complexity in the narrative. You just needed to see a film every six months or at least just know what happened in the post credit scene.
Now they’re trying to tie in all the Marvel Studio movies with their TV shows, with the Fox pictures, with the Sony pictures… it’s starting to remind me of the comics where it’s becoming too messy and requiring too much time and effort to follow that I’m just thinking, to hell with following it all, I’m not even bothering and will just cherry pick (as opposed to when I did watch them all, even the ones I wasn’t as interested in as it was much more straight forward).

(… But then again, it’s the MCU, history says I’m very likely wrong and each project will be a success!)

Love this picture…

No thanks, I’m good.

Second trailer for Spiderman: No Way Home. 5 villains, there seems to be one missing. Also,

Summary

The Brazilian version of this trailer shows a split second longer shot in which Lizard gets punched by an invisible enemy. Sure seems like someone was edited out…

So, upon further analysis, there does seem to be a sixth villain in the No Way Home trailer. However, it’s unclear who it is.

image

It does not appear to be Willem Dafoe, as he is already seen in his 2002 costume. Prevailing theories are that it is likely either Dane Dehaan’s Green Goblin from TAS2 or an alternate reality Hobgoblin. It’s unlikely that it would be James Franco with all of the controversies he’s been involved in. Though, any of the 3 would complete the Sinister Six.

However, it could be an unmasked Norman Osborn and in that circumstance, there would still be an outstanding 6th villain. In that case, I would put my money on either Michael Keaton as Vulture reprising his role from SM: Homecoming, Jake Gyllenhaal returning despite his death in FFH, or even Doctor Strange himself. This seems intriguing and seems to be making the multiverse the central overarching story of Phase 4.

A few more potentially super spoilery things:

Summary

There is a big hint that Tom Hardy’s Venom is in this film. The post-credit scene of Venom 2 had Eddie Brock seeing the news broadcast from the end of SM: FFH, confirming he has crossed universes into the MCU, possibly in the same event that brings everyone else. There’s also the chance that Topher Grace’s Venom could be here too. Lastly, it’s looking more and more likely that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are in fact in this film. The most damning evidence is the accidental extension in the Brazilian trailer showing Lizard being punched by an invisible enemy, most likely Andrew Garfield’s Spiderman. There’s also a theory that when MJ falls, the scene being reminiscent of Gwen Stacy’s death, it may actually be Andrew Garfield diving after her instead of Tom Holland.

This ended up being a bittersweet weekend for Dan Aykroyd…

Sad to hear, especially on this weekend for Dan Aykroyd. He had been trying for decades to get Ghostbusters 3 to the big screen and to have that moment arrive, with a debut above industry expectations no less, only to be met with such a personal tragedy is quite heartbreaking.

Universal just released the first 5mins of Jurassic World Dominion :t_rex:

I could honestly take 2 hours of just what is going on in the first 3 minutes of this. That would be the best of the series for me personally. I honestly lost some of my vested interest when we jumped to modern day. That said, they have a pretty big sandbox to play in this time around with dinosaurs loose in the modern world. Hope they can figure out a good plot to wrap around that concept.

Agree 100%. The first 3 1/2ish minutes were vastly more interesting than anything in the modern day stuff, or even really the last ~4 Jurassic Park movies combined.

The movies have just stopped having any tension in them. It’s only about looking at the effects now. Think about how suspenseful that T-Rex scene was the first time you saw JP - that’s gone.

I would love to see a remake of JP as some kind of limited series. There was so much in the book that was dropped (but yes, put into Lost World). The tone of it was much different, too.

The bird cage scene in JP3 was also from the Jurassic Park novel.

Just saw the new Venom movie. Entertaining enough, but nothing special - probably a 6 or 7/10 at the most. Funnily enough it makes me appreciate No Time To Die all the more. They really hit it out of the park with Craig’s last movie. A temporary absence makes the heart grow fonder. The cinematography, the music and the epic finality of it all. I am biased, but it really is on a whole other level to most films.

Cumberbatch talks about this in the new issue of Empire, basically Covid meant there was a lot that couldn’t be filmed during principal photography, then it being coupled with an international cast (who all need to do a full lockdown after they fly in) means EVERYTHING takes longer than it normally would.
