Came across some clip by a serious historian complaining about the costumes and how ‘wrong’ they were. Might as well complain about the Baalrog and the wrong Orc swords in LORD OF THE RINGS…

It’s great news and proves the point: Even with streaming, folks will head out to see good movies that are made with care by people who care. Seeing a film like this and engaging in a cultural moment like this reminds people that a really good trip to the movies can actually be rewarding in a very real way. I’m still buzzing over seeing it. So far so good with the box office this year!

Oh, boy.
Granted, I have never been a total Marvel fan - but I watched every film until the last Avengers, and then the Guardians conclusion. Everything which came after that I checked out but never finished.
Maybe I am too old for this. Maybe I am just not engaged with all of this. Maybe I am fed up with all the sameness of every fight looking like a video game and ending with no consequences.
But when a trailer still starts with the most cliché line (“Something/A Storm is coming…”) I only sigh and am bored already.
This film looks like tons of heroes get their 10 minutes of screen time in order to pad it out to 3 hours plus, and they all can do their fighty-fighty battle with no other result than a setup for the sequel or the 300 following films.
Will that release date really be Doomsday… for Marvel? DUNE 3 is not going away, so far, and it will eat into their grosses.
This is just hubris on Disney´s part, thinking that they can overpower everything, after all the box office disappointments Marvel gave them in the last years.
I predict this will collapse their next phase.

The Multiverse saga just didn’t work for them yet they decided to double down on it. They should have abandoned it when EVERYTHING went wrong with the film meant to set it up (Ant Man 3)

If they realy don’t know what to do anymore they can always come up with the idea mixing Marvel and DC or is that legaly wise not possible? Is that ever done, in the comics I mean?
Superman and Batman joining for example Captain America and Thor?

It’s been done with Superman/Spider-Man teamups/crossovers* in the past a couple of times - incidentally, I think one of these is just going on in the US.
Is it a promising strategy? I have my doubts. For the comics it’s instant collector stuff, but hardly more than a gimmick for a couple of issues, if that. The studios might go for it if absolutely pressed. But we’re talking about behemoth league entities now, three BIG players doing the heavy lifting of the market, each one out to kick the other two where it hurts. It’s not very likely something like this will happen, even if there surely already exist a hundred pitches to go there.
*and no doubt a couple of others I’m unaware of.

It’s interesting because I’m genuinely looking forward to Spider-Man, largely because that first trailer advertised a new and interesting angle, but I agree, this didn’t move the needle for me one bit. It’s accomplishing the exact same thing that the publicity stunt with the chairs did, showing off the size of the cast with the only difference being that we actually see them in their costumes, which…so what? We’ve already seen that elsewhere, too. Anyway, I’ll still be going, but this was a disappointing preview after such a long wait.

That looks incredibly bad. I mean, almost impressively so. There are so many things that the hundreds of millions of dollars that was spent on this could have been spent on.

That’s the problem with having only a couple of players pumping so much money down this drain, so many smaller productions simply never get made as long as this stuff sucks up all the air. This is not a functioning theatre market any more.
Of course, most of the smaller stuff now just moved to streaming - but how long until that too is streamlined and dumbed down by algorithms and AI? Where would directors like Coppola or Almodóvar or Anderson start their careers today - or in 15 years?
