News on NO TIME TO DIE (no spoilers)

Only once you’ve asked someone how to do it. And then to add a quote as an edit is rather tricky.

It took me a while to figure it out too and had giving on up quoting in the meantime. But once realised it is actually better than previous incarnations. You can select which part to quote, rather than either quoting everything, or methodically deleted unwanted parts from you draft.

Spoken like an internet fan boy exhibiting an appreciation of absolutely none of the facts that might actually be going on behind the scenes.

Bit harsh fella. 24 films over 54 years vs other film series that tire after four films…?

Might in reality be nothing more than varying levels of incredible competence, but all with competing motivations to their own respective ends. The ultimate impasse.

Still no official announcement from EON what a surprise

I think we need not at this moment wait for official word from Eon. They - Eon & MGM & Boyle and whoever is with them - are waiting for Hodge’s script; which may take into late spring/early summer. We probably will not hear from Eon before they could establish that the script is up to scratch and their studio agrees to finance it. Might be we sooner hear from MGM.

Guys, you are not owed periodic updates from Eon. We were given a release date and I say until we hear otherwise just chill out, kick back with a Vesper, and assume that after 60 years they know what they’re doing.

It’s not the same people in charge, however. MGW has the most experience, but we don’t know how involved he is these days.

It could well be very frustrating for all concerned, and no one here can say anything definitive, but things do seem to be running less smoothly for Eon than it is for their competitors.

Completely agree.

Again, just because we haven’t been made aware what’s going on behind the scenes doesn’t mean things aren’t going on behind the scenes.

The fact there have been so few films in the last decade indicate difficulties.

In the last decade there have been:

3 James Bond films
3 Mission Impossible films
1 Jason Bourne film

So when you say things “have been running less smoothly for EON than it’s competitors,” to which ones are you referring?

Accidently deleted my post there

Well, Fast & Furious, MCU and X-Men, mainly.

The difficulties Eon have had are well documented, anyway.

Basically these people are confusing studio and production team. They then ignore Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool and The Rhythm Section. In fact if we’re using the MCU example, you should also be counting the Hobbit trilogy and Tomb Raider as that’s made by the production arm of MGM, co-owner of Bond, and indeed, the ones whose financial woes have caused these longer gaps.

I seem to recall that John Pearson’s Bond bio did something just like that…

The plane had turned and, as it passed above us, her voice was drowned in the departing roar of its engines. As it sailed off into the dawn it dipped its wings.

Honeychile smiled and watched as it receded to a small dot in the sky.

‘Well, that’s that,’ she said as she turned back to the Rolls, ‘the bastard’s gone.’

[A nice tip of the hat to CR’s final sentence: “The bitch is dead now.” Crying shame Pearson didn’t write more Bond, alas…]

I don’t know if this has been discussed yet but will Bond 25 be able to shoot at Pinewood Studios?

It’s being reported that Indiana Jones 5 will be shooing in the UK in April.

Since Disney will be producing the film I would assume they will shoot at Pinewood Studios. The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rogue One, and Solo have all filmed at Pinewood. Disney signed an exclusive deal with Pinewood back in 2017 giving them sole access to several sound stages for future use, is the 007 stage one of them?

Star Wars: Episode IX will begin shooting in July of 2018.

If it follows the schedule of the other Star Wars films Episode IX will take 6 months or so to film. If Indiana Jones is also filming at Pinewood they could start taking over the stages as Episode IX wraps up. Indy 5’s preproduction and set building will take several months so April seems about right for the start of filming.

Star Wars and Indiana Jones will both be large productions but will there be room for Bond 25? Casino Royale only spent a couple of weeks on the 007 stage to film the sinking Venice house so it’s possible for Bond 25 to be in after Star Wars wraps and out before Indy 5 begins in April.

It is in fact a concern. No doubt a lot will depend on how the script turns out and what kind of infrastructure they will need for how long. Also, Eon’s Bond will have a certain pull and they are no doubt closely involved with the Pinewood powers-that-be.

However…

Major productions are lining up for their slots now, and the smaller ones of course too. From a certain point onwards you just have to take the jump and announce what you will need when and for how long. An experienced production team like Eon can make an educated guess. But you also need to know the budget and have the cheques ready. This will have to be decided sooner rather than later.

Reading today’s news, I definitely have a story idea for them :flushed:

*To answer the inevitable question - the guy who created Cambridge Analytica is Aleksandr Spectre

I thought about the same thing. Cambridge Analytica looks like a subdivision of Spectre.

Interesting.

This article mentioned that Annapurna does have the domestic rights to Bond 25. I know when Annapurna agreed to distribute MGM’s slate of films domestically Bond 25 was not a part of the deal but they were trying to acquire them. Looks like they did.
