It’s just that it isn’t Bond. It would be like if Eon decided to say come up with some weird sci-fi plot and kill off Bond…
What…what are you looking at me like that for?

On second thought, as a concept I don’t dislike it - if the premise is to show what happens when Bond retires, goes on leave or is incapacitated. Perhaps not an apocalypse, but a large scale terrorist attack succeeds, with the promise of more to come. It would make for a good comic or video game.
That would be terrible, wouldn’t it.
Seriously, if they can get away with killing off Bond by way of a nanobot virus, then pretty much anything is on the table for the franchise. ![]()
Right? I mean if they’re gonna do that they might as well just send Bond to space or something and have him shoot lazer guns like in Star Wars.
Moonraker?

…and that was fantastic!!

But I’m a Moonraker fan!
Im actually wondering if EON/Amazon would allow Bond to go back to the fifties? Period pieces can be very pricey.
A safe bet, but one that won’t be taken …is Young Bond. Maybe it’s time to go in that direction for a change?
Going back to a previous decade would be a direct answer to the question that more than one of the Craig films posed, which is whether or not the Double-oh Section, and by extension James Bond himself, is relevant anymore. Immediately going back to the 50s or 60s (or any other time period) would be a direct answer to that question.
Ralph Fiennes should be allowed to continue because there’s always a holdover from before. Instead of playing Gareth Mallory, he should be playing Sir Miles Messervy. Dear EON, don’t make this a surprise that the audience sees coming. Just straight up tell us. Judi Dench gets way too much credit for continuing on. All she did was yell at him.
My home country of America is full of criminals. They’re often called politicians. If EON wants a another Felix Leiter centered story, that would be a good place to start.
She did much more.
She did some screaming too.
I noticed on Kingsmen that Ralph Fiennes has a coproducer credit. If he stays on for Bond, he could earn another one. He has something that not many Bond actors have: Star Power. He’s shown it before by saying to John Logan and Sam Mendes (who also had a fair amount of Star Power), not to make Mallory a villain. It’d be too obvious for him as a actor.
And yet the argument can be made that Mallory is in fact the villain of NTTD given it’s his actions and decisions that ultimately fuel the machinations of Safin and bring about Bond’s demise.
I actually would have loved to see Fiennes-M revealing himself to be, well, Blofeld.
Now that would have opened up a huge dramatic conflict. With Blofeld getting rid of C in SPECTRE because C had become too influential, threatening his power position.
Actually, M is Franz Oberhauser’s mother (hence the Blofeld name). She used that gene therapy from DAD.
And Judi Dench (both of them) weren’t? Elektra King and Raoul Silva are byproducts of her self centeredness. Then she has the balls to try and kill Bond off, twice? And we the audience is supposed to sympathize with her? Bad writing and overuse of a minor character is more like it.
Damn, they really thought this through! More intricate storylines than the internet can acknowledge.
Unless, of course, the world actually does end. Then it would be an entirely appropriate setting for a Bond film…No?
I want to return to what was brought up in this article, particularly:
Because if this is true then it’s going to be very interesting going forward as planning a a multi film arc is new territory for the producers and five is an ambitious number. I presume they’ll want to lock in the writers for the duration but what about directors? If they’re continuing to target prestige filmmakers I doubt any of them would want to be locked in for five back to back Bonds. One idea I had would be to get hire a director for film one and have them stay on board as a producer for subsequent installments so they can continue to guide the films before jumping back into the directors chair at a later date. Or maybe lock the script down and shift more to reliable journeymen directors (if that’s even possible, they seem a dying breed).
Fascinated to see if this pans out.
This would be a very bad idea.
