Reboot? Remake? Retro? Which direction should the series take next?

May 2028. To coincide with Ian Fleming’s 120th birthday.

Yeah, not interested in Holland. He has Spider-Man baggage just as Cavill has Superman baggage. I’m feeling pretty confident the latter won’t be getting the role due to age, and nor will ATJ.

Elordi and Dickinson haven’t been seriously considered by anyone, and that’s how it usually is. Having a quick look at both now I can see the early potential. I possibly favour Elordi. He has a Lazenby/Brosnan type look and I sense roguish charisma. Dickinson perhaps is more serious and could work too. Once candidates are put through screen tests the powers that be can make a better informed decision.

Me either. Seems about the right general age to build an extensive era.

Could have sworn I read somewhere that Holland was going to quit acting for a bit.

That’s so sad. It makes me want to cry. :frowning:

We really have been in the Bondian desert this last, forgettable decade. :frowning:

I agree. Unfortunately, that is very probably true. However, Amazon did not comment in the story to confirm that statement so there remains (some) hope that 2027 is still doable. :crossed_fingers:

I’m looking at British actors under 30 and… they all look like pretty boys who should be advertising fragrances. None of them scream someone who has a licence to kill.

The thing that gives me pause about Elordi is his height. 6’5 is considerably taller than any other Bond actor, and maybe distractingly so. Dickinson’s 6’2 is more in line with the others in that regard.

They’re not going to be casting this thing for a while. Have we already forgotten when Ewan Stewart was member of the “Final Four” for Casino Royale, and much closer to its release date than we are to Bond 26 at this point.

As for Variety’s supposed Amazon James Bond wish list, I don’t see it. While I like Tom Holland as Peter Parker, he would be completely wrong as 007. I don’t get any Bond vibes from him at all, and at 5’6 1/2" he is waaay too short to be James Bond. The other two, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson are better, but I still don’t get a lot of 007 vibes from them either. And at 6’5" Elordi might be too tall.

All three of these candidates would be at least 30 in 2027 when Bond 26 could come out which is the youngest any Bond should be. So I don’t like the idea at all that Amazon may be looking at 007 actors in their 20s. Bond is an experienced agent. He should not be played by an actor in his 20s. (Granted Lazenby was officially 29 when he made On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, but he was 30 when the film came out, and he looked older than the twenty-somethings do today.)

When it comes to finding the next James Bond, Amazon can do better.

There’s no saying for sure, but given how DUNE MESSIAH is a considerable tentpole production and BOND 26, every bit as big but in its very embryo stages still…I suppose 2028 is indeed the more realistic option. With casting of the lead likely still months away, at a point where the script has taken more of a shape.

Indeed. I’m not quick to rule actors out entirely these days unless they’re Tom Holland. Even some seemingly questionable choices can clean up rather well and become appealing. It’s always the initial random shock and trying to see those green shoots of potential.

But there’s a long way to go between now and the casting process. These three may be on the table but I’m sure others will be looked at.

I’m still hoping for late (November please) '27. 65th anniversary year. The Seventh 007.

It works. :crossed_fingers:

They’re already happening with Patrick Gibson and 007 First Light.

Not really related to this search, but interesting to hear from someone who met with EON about Casino Royale who wasn’t one of the usual suspects mentioned in that search.

It‘s surprising that his idea was the one they were going for - just not him. Although Goode is not the rugged brute type, more the mysterious charmer.

He is definitely by far one I would prefer even now over those children mentioned.

We’re definitely in uncharted territory now with these new names. At the end of the day it’s all out of our control. All we can do is sit back and comment. Amazon have made good choices so far with the producers and director IMO, so I’ll continue to keep the faith.

On X Jeff Sneider claims “there is no Bond shortlist. Doesn’t exist. I warned you yesterday about this. People are just grasping at straws to fill column inches and drive traffic.”

I can see Amazon having some names they think they can market, but i agree we aren’t going near casting until after this other writer is hired, and Dune Messiah is far enough along.

There may be no shortlist in the form of a definite list with n number of names. But is it realistic to expect studio heads and producers have absolutely zero ideas yet? I’d expect Villeneuve to have at least a vague vision. And probably the writer(s) too.

With the care of time and the script taking shape these will cumulate, maybe even completely change direction once a small number of faces forms the final candidates. And much may change until then; a ‘young Bond’ may fall out of favour with the creatives and more mature actors may get the upper hand in this. All possible outcomes.

What’s likely no indication whatsoever is an Omega ambassador contract. For all we know they may not even be in the picture for BOND 26. Neither are bookie favourites or taking names out of the betting pool. This is a notoriously shady business that’s oftentimes subject to manipulation and subterfuge, most often entirely unrelated to the subject of the bet. That stuff is best left alone.
