The cuckoo was a pigeon in disguise?
When you’re a pigeon you disguise options are limited.
That’s how I approach every day!
My main issue when I saw Spectre was that it really wasn’t what the ending of Skyfall promised. Skyfall’s ending seemed to inform a kind of return-to-form. By all means bring SPECTRE back, but did we really need it to be all connected after Skyfall seemed to promise a move away from that.
I watched Spectre yesterday afternoon for the first time in a long time and I really really enjoyed it. Even the foster brother subplot and underwhelming crater escape didn’t bother me. There’s so much else that hits classic Bond notes that I absolutely loved it. Great movie that is due some love around here.
I agree - one was led to expect Bond to work, “with pleasure”, carrying out missions for M, instead of going rogue again.
But hey, NTTD, seems to do away with all that and… no, wait. Going rogue again.
Opposite surely? He is not a member of Mi6 but goes on to have a meeting with M, actually signing in at the front desk, to do an official mission.
The man who left actually goes through procedure and admin.
And look how he enjoys it…
“So this is what the rest of the firm do?”
This is the man who left a casino when told to come in and didn’t bother to get changed…
Bond starting as he meant to go on.
They could make a bumper sticker for Bond. “Going Rouge Since '89”
That bumper sticker could apply to many male-hero action/thriller/spy movies since 1989. As societies diversify/evolve, the trope of the previous cultural standard bearer going rogue (often to maintain/uphold tradition) is an attractive one. Off the top of my head, I can see it as far back as THE SEARCHERS (1956), except that Ford had the genius to know that once having gone rogue, there is no place for that person at the table, even if they seemingly have undergone a transformation.
And for no reason other than for me it is one of the five most sublime moments in cinema:
Does he?
The signing in at front desk bit is in the trailer.
Yeah, but is he doing this to go on a mission or just to do that one meeting where he meets Maddie and Blofeld?
I’m assuming meets with M because it’s the same suit he was wearing at Prince Charles’ visit and he’s walking through the corridor to M’s office from Spectre with Nomi and Monepenny. Whether or not he goes on an official mission from there, who knows, but officially signing in to the log book and doing work he’s been actually hired to do is a step in the right direction…even if he did have to have been retired for 5 years to do it…and it being Felix who hired him…but, hey, baby steps.
Based on my interpretation of the film’s sequencing I’m inclined to believe Bond does participate in an officially mandated mission, per se. Perhaps M says something like “you’re going to get involved anyway, so we’ll have Nomi tag along with you.” As always, pure speculation.
This article has a still of Bond sitting in M’s office with a visitor badge on, so it’s fair to assume that he meets with M after checking in with the guy at the front desk.
Looks like he’s waiting for a Silver Wraith to arrive.
Spectre is a good film but not as good as the other Craig films but it’s better than the whole Brosnan era. I enjoyed the scenes between Bond and Blofeld. They were classic on their own. I didn’t like the plane action scene I felt it was too forced for an action scene just like the useless ski scene in TWINE.
