Shocking Bond Confessions

Interesting! Because they now know that it can all be over quickly again? Would EON dare to let Bond die again?

Wow! Thanks for showing this! It’s years ago that I bought it on Ebay, I honestly can’t remember how it looked liked, but it’s probably the same, because I don’t think there are two different ones.

It’s a moment that could have really made a huge impact had it been done correctly, instead of going the route that they did. And, no matter how correctly they may end up doing it in the future, it will forever be robbed of its maximum impact by the completely lame way that EON went about killing Bond in NTTD.

NTTD can’t be directly referenced in ongoing continuity but I think its residual energy will absolutely be felt, at least in the short term. It humanised Bond in a big way, introducing an element to the character that I never really felt before. I think this will be a good thing.

There was always going to be a gap of some length afterwards regardless of how it ended, but an absence to this degree (death) has made me love Bond more than I did previously. It has made me look back over all the previous eras and components of the franchise wistfully.

With mourning comes reflection, celebration and then rebirth. When Bond #7 enters the picture I think fans will be relieved, and appreciate a return to something classical even more than usual.

I’m just watching TMWTGG this afternoon on ITV (not an especially shocking confession) and this most recent viewing has confirmed my opinion that this film, for all its faults, is where Sir Rog gave his definitive Bond performance. The scenes with Lazaar and Andrea bristle with just the right blend of charm and menace, and we haven’t even got to the confrontation with Scaramanga yet. Sunday afternoon is going very nicely indeed!

It seems that aside from FRWL most second films in an actorā€˜s tenure are underappreciated or even maligned because the novelty factor of the first appearance is gone and the mix of all the specific elements is still an experiment and not set.

TMWTGG, despite its weaknesses, has a lot going for it. And Moore (always) delivers a magnificent performance.

My favorite part was him dying at the hand of British cruise missles with a pink bunny hanging out of his pants.

Ok here’s mine: Of the following last films for each actor (DAF, AVTAK, LTK, DAD, and NTTD)… AVTAK was the best of the bunch.

One of the franchise’s highlight moments, for sure.

FYEO is the worst film in the series. Lacklustre villain, stakes and title song. The Bibi Dahl component. The Margaret Thatcher parody. Bond’s poor clothing. The reputation of it being a serious style film is very overstated and I just can’t summon much enthusiasm for it. I used to rank AVTAK and DAF last, but not anymore. Those two have more entertainment, memorability and pizazz about them. DAF is probably the biggest comfort film in the series.

But it still has the best skiing action scenes of every film ever made (tied with Ken Wahl“s Soldier)!

I’d never thought about FYEO this way before, but this is very true.

Here’s another one: There are times when John Drake is a better James Bond than James Bond is a James Bond.

Wow. Never thought of DAF in that light.

DAF and NSNA have hilarious dialogue, which is an understandable thing to emphasise with an older Bond. What I like is how both films still don’t shy away from Bond being physically capable. Even NSNA with Connery readmitted to Shrublands had him against Pat Roach, one of the more terrifying prospects in the series. Bond doesn’t dominate the fight but he manages to survive and pull out a win. Even the so called ā€˜bored Connery’ has the sumo driver fight in YOLT.

007 Reasons Why Pierce Brosnan’s Final Bond Film Was Better Than Daniel Craig’s Final Bond Film

  1. DAD PTS was far better… Billie Eilish mumbling whispered phrases into a microphone against a dime a dozen CGIscape backdrop VS the Material Girl herself (legend) against a backdrop of Bond being tortured in a Nork prison… it’s not close

  2. the first half of DAD nearly saved the movie, the first half of NTTD had no shot whatsoever of saving the movie

  3. Jinx > Nomi… Nomi’s awesome sunglasses and threatening to shoot Bond in his good knee weren’t enough to overcome the utter coolness of Jinx throughout the entire film… Nomi wanting to give 007 back to Bond was as corny as it gets

  4. Gustav Graves > Lyutsifer Safin… not debatable

  5. John Clease > Ben Whishaw… not debatable

  6. Iceland surfing was cringe, yes. But it was nowhere near as cringe as the most famous British spy in history being blown up by British cruise missiles whilst wearing a pink bunny in his pants.

  7. at the end of DAD… Bond lives

Next up… 007 Reasons Why Roger Moore’s Final Bond Film Was Better Than Daniel Craig’s Final Bond Film

Spoilers… how do you spell Christopher Walken? The pink bunny might continue to be a theme… also British cruise missiles.

007 Reasons Why Roger Moore’s Final Bond Film Was Better Than Daniel Craig’s Final Bond Film

  1. Duran Duran > Billie Eilish… this is just mean, and I feel bad about myself for even including it on the list… not really

  2. Mayday > Primo… this is also a total mismatch, Bond movies used to have interesting henchmen. It seems the only reason for Primo’s existence was to pay off the watch-fry-eyeball-kills-bad-guy gag at the end.

  3. Christopher Walken

  4. As a traditionally non-serious Bond, Moore’s serious Bond moments in this film rivaled Craig’s (ā€œkilling Tibbit was a mistakeā€ scene; ā€œBrilliant. I’m almost speechless with admiration.ā€ scene)

  5. Zorin’s murders were far more gritty and graphic than anything Safin did. The scene in the cave where Zorin mows down all those workers with a machine gun shows that he’s far more bat guano insane than Safin. All this made Zorin far more formidable.

  6. the score. AVTAK has a great score. There was nothing particularly memorable about NTTD’s score except for the callbacks to OHMSS, which were neat and nostalgic, but not particularly creative or original.

  7. Of pink bunnies and cruise missiles n such… at the end of AVTAK, James Bond is alive.

Irony is often undetectable on the internet.

But I suspect you don’t really like NTTD.

 It wasn’t my favorite.

On the other hand… the ā€œpink bunnyā€ is completely sold out at the 007 site, people liked it, so it seems? No idea how much it costed, but knowing the 007 site it probably wasn’t 20 euro.

What? They sell the pink bunny on the 007 website? …Oh forevermore, they really do. Yep, it was definitely time for Eon to hand over the reins.

You should imagine what Amazon will sell…
