That’s funny, I had almost the exact same reaction when I saw his quote.
For all I know this might be entirely fictional - I wasn’t yet able to find another independent source on this - but several of Notes from Poland’s other stories are legitimate news and concern current affairs topics. So there…
Well, it’s not like they put up a golden statue in something like a, you know, golf club?
Right idea, but wrong Blofeld.
Yep! And… there is a chance a lot of people will think it is Dr. Evil. ![]()
Difficult times ahead…
The Mandalorian and Grogu, by comparison, may still be a success with its far more modest budget of $165m – but its opening weekend pales next to those of Disney’s other Star Wars films, including the 2016 spin-off Rogue One.
Maybe to the general public the title doesn’t sound like a Star Wars movie and doesn’t ring any bells?
Might be. But there’s also the fact it’s in effect a big screen episode of a streaming series already running for some seasons. If you’re not a subscribed, card-carrying Star Wars fan already, why would people want to start with this? People who haven’t followed the show are unlikely to watch the film - while the Disney+ subscribers know it will pop up in their menu soon-ish.
Exactly. From what I’ve read of the plot it just didn’t justify a movie. They played it way too safe and nothing consequential happens. I think they assumed Grogu (baby Yoda) was so popular and cute that he would be enough to bring in money. If the Starfighter movie underwhelms next year then it’s looking grim for the franchise. Ryan Gosling and Amy Adams being attached has my interest…so fingers crossed.
Playing it too safe - just repeating the show ideas and thinking people won’t wait for the streaming release - shows how Disney now operates. No risks, but also no surprises. Just middle of the road fare. Good for the shareholders.
I suppose this could have been a huge success if Disney had started with a Mandalorian/Grogu film. No direct connections to the original trilogy - the significance of the Battle of Yava and Jedi is even quite obscure in the original premise - and the story could have developed away from that setting instead of towards it. The series did this up to a degree but a film could have been bolder even.
Hammer fans watch out…
With extra bite!
The master understands.
Nope, cannot say I ever heard of this. Nowadays that may not mean much though, people publish all kind of books themselves. Some no doubt really outstanding labours of love and worth every penny.
However, 92 pages seems really slim even if the book concentrates exclusively on NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.
Beat me to it.
Entirely with Pike: when you go to some venue where performing artists are doing their best to entertain the crowd, be respectful enough not to insult them by texting, swiping or whatever. If your mobile has the greater attraction on you do everybody a favour by leaving.
Not truly Bond related other than in the most general sense that taxpayers are now helping to finance the bread and circuses which apparently can’t foot the bill themselves any more. This may even be sound political thinking but there was a time when these ventures were a solid investment on their own. ![]()
