Perhaps it would have been the best strategy to delay NO TIME TO DIE‘s release ‘indefinitely/until further notice’ right from the start last spring. Of course that’s not the way the business works - and few thought back then this thing would keep us company this long, me included.

What’s amazing that, after _No Time to Die_ is delayed into 2022, we’ll have seen a stretch of 13 years in which only two Bond films were made.
Hopefully the next guy avoids a fate similar to that of Lazenby or Dalton, because a short-lived tenure that’s viewed as a failure by the public isn’t what this franchise is going to need after the Craig era ends with a film being released into an overly crowded marketplace after the franchise’s longest-ever hiatus.

Depends. If they release before March 27th 2022, the record will stay with LTK to GE (June 13th 1989 to November 13th 1995 = 2344 days).

I feel fairly confident they’ll go for April again.
While they can’t be faulted for this particular set of delays, they can be for the delays that preceded the pandemic with regards to this latest film. 2 films in the span of what will be almost a decade and a half is rather pathetic for a production house whose sole job is to put out films in said franchise.

While I also see a certain fatigue within EON to get productions going which have grown increasingly complex and expensive, I mainly blame them for their desire to wait for hot A-list talent, as if those were the only way to ensure Bond remains relevant.
Waiting for Mendes to return? Waiting for Malek to become available? Both are great, but they could have returned for later films. Instead two years were lost.
And of course there was Craig. Was it worth it waiting for him to decide he wants to do one more? Sure, many people who lend the money wanted him to be Bond because he seems the surer bet. But if they had just recast after SPECTRE we could have had a film in 2017 and one in 2019.
So I understand and share your frustration. But there are always many factors at play, and EON is not the only party who can decide.
