# What do you think about the NTTD release date?

In Germany Warner Bros. will release EVERY new film this year on home video/streaming after 28 days of theatrical exhibition (should there be any theatrical exhibition). WW1984 will be made availble on SKY and stay available even if the film is released in theatres at some point.

They’d be doing that everywhere if HBO Max was available anywhere else in the world.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your view point, piracy of WB movies is going to aggressively spike, as release date staggering meets same day/date streaming during a pandemic to create the perfect storm to make piracy thrive.

But at least the idea is that once cinemas do reopen, the WB films do release earlier internationally to somewhat compensate. For instance, WW84 released on Dec 16 abroad before the Christmas Day HBO Max drop, Godzilla Vs Kong is now out March 31 in the US and week before elsewhere, Dune is now going September 16 internationally ahead of the US on Oct 1.
International cinemas are harsher than their US counterparts ATM when it comes to the exclusivity window. Looks like around a month is as good as it’s going to get - though I suspect in both cases of this and here in the UK where it’s going to be 31/45 days (down from 16 weeks), it’s a case of the industry working out a longer post COVID solution straight away, as opposed to improvising a shorter term fix just for the months ahead (which is what WB’s day and date HBO Max initiative is)

So just for a bit of realistic context - because I know folks have posted some stuff similar to above here with slightly more ‘it’s going to 2022’ - that doesn’t mean UK cinemas will be closed. It means that it’ll basically be like last summer when Tenet came out - so same restrictions still in place in terms of audience capacity until the end of the year. But now with the vaccine out there, hopefully, more audience confidence.
So, much like the last period in between the first and second wave. Will MGM (and not just them but other studios with big films due for a traditional exclusive theatrical release) be okay with releasing into a still somewhat restricted environment? This is where probably looking at the Tenet data will actually bear fruit because - that’s done really well in the UK and elsewhere in Europe/Asia given the circumstances. And that’s without the vaccine out there.

And, given the negatives of WB doing day and date (I.e the ones from not telling your production team you were doing this) are not going to apply to a Marvel property, i can definitely see day and date on to Disney+ happening

With October eight months away - 8!!! -, I would love them to at least throw us a bone, at least the Zimmer score.
I remember those sweet days when the soundtrack was released before the film was out. I listened to the music, thinking about all those great scenes I would see.
C´mon, EON. C´mon, Hans. Releasing the score for NTTD now would even make sense from a financial standpoint, with TOP GUN 2 and DUNE out shortly before.

I actually always prefer to hear it for the first time watching the movie.
However, with the main theme song, I prefer to know it really well before hearing it accompanying the titles sequence.

Exactly.
That fabulous advantage the vaccination effort in the UK suddenly has is solely due to one fact: first doses are given without making sure second doses are in stock when needed. That’s a two edged blade.
You reach twice the number of people with every delivery from the industry. But you also risk people missing out on the second shot because they are supposedly already ‘immune’.
Now not all vaccines are conceived as two-stage immunisation, some have already been designed as a one-shot-and-you’re-ready package. But the AZ one isn’t one of those and is only significantly tested and approved in a booster combination.
Drawing out the period between the two shots is at once taking pressure off the supply side, saving lives by giving a first protection **and** producing splendid headlines (which is particularly nice given the mountain of victims already lost and the conflict with the EU). But in terms of a strategy it’s also asking for trouble because you turn the population into a pressure cooker for resistant mutations.
That’s why we ought to be somewhat careful about easing of restrictions like vacations, hospitality and so on: if that’s done before enough people are indeed _properly_ vaccinated chances are we’ll find the results as a significant blunting of the vaccine tool in time for next autumn/winter. The pharma industry is already counting on the need for increased adaptation and retooling of their products.
