Which Bond film do you defend to the death?

That’s definitely one of the biggest missing links between Craig’s first two films and whatever they were trying to do in terms of tying it all together towards the end. We only get the one scene with Bond and Mr. White at the beginning of QOS and then that whole thing basically goes unresolved. For a character who has his hands in so many of the goings-on that Bond has to deal with over the course of Craig’s tenure, we get to see very little of him and Bond has next to no interaction with him.

Would the zeitgeist been amenable to a Bond-enjoying-his-job movie during the Craig years?

But… SPECTRE?

Great question.

Depends on the service and the enjoyment, it seems.

In any other timeline, having Bond destroy another oligarch organisation would have been what audiences want to see.

But is he still allowed to do that?

Maybe. Since Bezos probably will not see himself as evil or laugh it off and sell it as extreme „don’t give a f- ness“.

Unresolved for almost a decade and only then as a half-baked means to shoe-horn Oberhauser into the story as the mastermind behind it all when it was never meant to be the case and to give him some menace when he comes across as anything but menacing on screen.

In terms of whatever the original intentions were for the story line post-QOS, Bond and Mr. White’s story is unresolved.

As far as I’m concerned, the Craig era and, therefore, the EON Bond franchise, ends when Bond meets the new M at the end of Skyfall.

Seeing that EON’s major decisions for the two films after that were terrible, it should have.

I think the audience would love to see it today. But is the franchise in a place to deliver on such an interest? Bond is now part of the system in ways he was not before.

Wouldn‘t it be possible if they rebooted now with a younger Bond joining the service in order to actually fight the system(s) from within?

A film made by the system about fighting/undermining itself?

And Terry Gilliam will direct.

Poring over which film to defend to the death…

I tend to be a bit sceptical about the idea to end my life in defence of a Bond film since none of them are really in need of such exceptional valour - even NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN and CASINO ROYALE 1967 have their sworn defenders - while other things might be more deserving.

But for personal reasons I do have a soft spot for FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, in spite of its various shortcomings and uneven tone. Incidentally, CinemaRetro has dug out a News at Ten broadcast from June 1981; 45 years ago…

That was nice. I wish the premiere special was also included.

That is the sane response.

I read and understood it like saying: I will defend this Bond movie (in my case Moonraker and DAF) for the rest of my life till I pass away.

I know what you’re referring to. That’s where I insert GE Reloaded and Blood Stone. During Casino Royale though he is the most relaxed and flippant, before the death of Vesper. The energy he brings in that movie is unlike any of his other appearances. Breaking into M’s apartment, the whole deal with Solange and parking ‘Goldfinger’s’ car. Other examples too I won’t list - it’s just the general vibe he gives off. He’s warmer and content while recovering, on the beach and on the yacht - then fate intervenes.
