Who Should Write the Next Bond Continuation Novel?

Honestly wouldn’t mind a novelization of Skyfall.

Sorry everyone, no Bond.

“No Bond”?

Sounds right on point for the “James Bond” franchise.

Touché.

But at least in this case, the official James Bond publisher, IFP, has no involvement in this latest book without Bond.

I must say it´s probably the right idea to keep Bond from those novels at this point.

That doesn’t mean I want to read these. I just think as long as the next iteration of Bond is not thought out it would be pointless.

The worrying thing is if I actually like the direction they take when he does return. I’ll give them a chance, but I won’t deny my palms will be sweating when I click on the article outlining the new actor and chosen plotline.

Indeed, a regular Bond novel is probably best launched once it can tap into the projected film(s). A project like Solo or Forever and a Day would only sap away attention from the film relaunch. And any present day reboot would have to play well with the version Amazon is going to put onto the screen. Thus the chances for an adult Bond novel are likely best once the script and tone of BOND 26 crystallise from the mists of production.

Unfortunately for us novel 007 fans hoping for a new James Bond adventure sooner, you are probably right.

Happy 72th publishing day to Casino Royale! I’m sure this has been posted before, but it is truly interesting.

As I said above, these people are just some of my suggestions. I don’t (sadly) know many modern day full-time authors who could write a great James Bond novel. Any suggestions from anyone are welcome! You think that anyone would have suggested Sebastian Faulks before Devil May Care? Probably not. I don’t want JK Rowling, that’s for sure. Maybe Steven Knight, seeing where his Rey Star Wars movie goes.

Wow, I kind of predicted the future! I hope he still gets credit for his Rey Star Wars movie.

A lot of fans are thinking that this is related to SilverFin and it’s 20th Anniversary. I’d also like to mention that the 20th anniversary of SilverFin was in March actually. It could also be related to either Hurricane Room or James Bond and the Secret Academy. Fingers crossed that it’s a new adult Bond novel.

It is indeed a Silverfin rerelease. Not keen on the cover art. Limited to 300 copies. I treasure my first edition that I got back in high school, so no need to invest on this one. Still, bodes well that they’re keeping Charlie close. Pulling for Hurricane Room and excited to read it, but I do hope we relaunch soon with a new series from him.

With regard to a new adult Bond novel, that probably will not materialise before Amazon is making demonstrable progress on BOND 26, i.e. settle on a concept, a script and a lead actor. From Amazon‘s perspective it wouldn’t make sense not to link an adult Bond novel to their own in-house product. I guess we‘ll only get an IFP announcement in that direction after the new Bond has been announced and presented to the media.

As long as that’s not yet on the agenda a new continuation will at most be prepared behind the scenes, if that. Eon didn’t regard the publishing business as a big help in promoting Bond; there’s no obvious reason why Amazon should think differently. They may, they could - but it’s far from a given.

It’s not as if there hasn’t been an anniversary edition in October already…

Not too fond of either one of those covers, and besides, I have my firsts, UK and US and German versions, both hard- and softcovers (no, wrong, only hardcover for US), two of them signed, plus the graphic novel. Also, shelf space is scarce, so I guess I’ll simply gonna skip this one :squinting_face_with_tongue:

I have all my first editions too. Higson’s five are up there with the best continuation novels, particularly Blood Stone and Double or Die. I’d fully support him coming back for another project.

I’m not sure how hard Amazon will go with its content push, but right now will be the quietest period we’ll have with the franchise for quite some time. I’m eager for things to get started to see how it all works out.

I think you’ve got the video game Blood Stone on your mind sharpshooter. I think you meant to type Blood Fever instead. And yes, Blood Fever and Double Or Die are the best Charlie Higson novels. Though after On His Majesty’s Secret Service effort, I’m not wild about Higson returning.
