Your preferred or dream movie title?

So if it all came down to you to choose the title of the next movie but you could only pick from the few Fleming titles that are left, what would you go with? Likewise, if you had absolute power to title the movie whatever you liked what would you choose?

I know I’m in the minority but I really like THE HILDEBRAND RARITY. I’ve heard people saying it would be too much of a departure for the franchise. But this will be the first movie in a new chapter for the franchise under new bosses. The return of the franchise & the introduction of a new actor would make any title iconic. I also like The Hildebrand Rarity because it has the mystery of other Spy movies like The Paralax View & thrillers like The Pelican Brief. As long as the promotion of the movie gets the message across that the title is a reference to a deadly shark then I think it would be fine.

If I had the choice of naming the movie myself, I think THE NAME’S BOND, JAMES BOND would be brilliant for a number of reasons. Firstly because it’s about time that Bond got his name in a title & because it’s an iconic trademark of the character. Also with the movie being the first of the new production team, putting Bond’s name in the title would settle alot of nerves like its saying ‘ok were under new management but its still the same franchise you’ve known & loved all these years’

I’d love to hear everyone else’s ideas & opinions

I’ll also be interested to hear people’s ideas, because, as of now, there’s nothing that springs to mind.

I can tell you what I hope they don’t do, and that is go down the generic route of:

Bond
Bond, James Bond
James Bond
007

I imagine for this first instalment of the new era, the temptation to do that will be strong. But I really hope we get a story-based title instead.

And let’s hope we don’t end up having to write the acronym TNHTTOF…

Every time there’s a new Bond film in production, the title discussion comes up, and to me, this is very much putting the cart before the horse. While Bond titles have their own unique style and rhythm, they are still titles, and a good title is a reflection of the story. Yes, there are ones like ‘For Your Eyes Only,’ which could apply to any Bond adventure, but for the most part they reference a character or idea unique to that film. If you have no story, then you have no title.

Having said that…

I passed the time waiting for the next Bond film by creating my own little series of Bond adventures, purely for my own amusement. So for the first time I’ve really tried to craft titles that fit within the Bond aesthetic.

ValourStrike - the villain’s drone weapon.

Ecospear - an ecoterrorism organisation founded by the main Bond girl.

No Scar Forgotten - scars are the primary theme/ motif

Shadow of the Golden Age - my anti-nostalgia Bond film, inspired by the ‘golden age of espionage’ line from Skyfall

Legends Never Die - apocalyptic stakes, a villain obsessed with mythology, as well as Bond’s status as a legend within the service and to the audience.

There are the one word titles which have been most effective for Bond, there are the puns on idioms (i.e. Live and let live) or the purely descriptive ones (The Man with the golden gun).

I think the start of new era will hark back to the classic one word titles. Simply because that is what people associate with Bond (Goldfinger, Thunderball, Moonraker, Goldeneye).

I absolutely love SHADOWS OF A GOLDEN AGE Vanya! Apart from being very Fleming-esque it’s a great title to project/bolt ideas to. With the next film heavily expected to focus on a younger Bond early in his career, I imagine the plot being that in order to qualify for his OO status, Bond has been given the task of finding & eliminating the ‘shadows’ who were either double agents in M15 who secretly worked for SPECTRE or agents who defected over to the ‘dark side’ in the golden age alluded to in the title. Bond has to find & kill them but learns a valuable lesson about trust along the way & has to question whether the life of a secret agent is for him. And by the end of the movie we get an answer: YES! The life of a secret agent suits him perfectly

Its pretty much the perfect title for a Bond movie & novel. I love it :fire::fire::fire::fire:

I honestly don’t know. Just as long as it isn’t On His Majesty’s Secret Service…

I will take this in a slightly different direction. Given how NTTD borrowed the title from a Columbo episode, what other Columbo titles could be used? Here are my preferred ones in order:

  1. A Case of Immunity

  2. A Matter of Honor

  3. Uneasy Lies the Crown

  4. Double Shock (Perhaps Raymond Benson would suggest Double Shot)

  5. Ashes to Ashes

To start the new era the obvious choice would be OhisMSS, Licence Renewed or For Special Services. Then I´d really like to have THR and Risico to use up the Fleming ones…and of course Colonel Sun…Win, Lose or Die. Role of Honour and No Deals, Mr. Bond are o.k. too when the new actor should be successful. Death is Forever, Zero Minus Ten, High Time to Kill and Carte Blanche too

Some other Columbo titles:

A Deadly State of Mind
Dagger of the Mind
Butterfly in Shades of Gray
An Exercise in Fatality
Mind Over Mayhem

Like Charlie Higson, I agree with brining back naming the story after the villain. I am aware it’s only been done 2 and a half at best (TMWTGG I’d the half) but it is giving a nod to the past but also emphasises that this film belongs to them.

Only if there is an intriguing enough name. Goldfinger is excellent. But recall that Gardner had Brokenclaw.

True, but this way they only need to come up with one memorable name rather than 2.

Thank you, although I had a very different story in mind.

The villain would be the son of a legendary Cold War operative, obsessed with the period’s romanticised ideals and now running a mercenary spy organisation. His goal is to restore his agency to prominence by reigniting old tensions.

Bond’s mission would be to infiltrate this organisation. His objective is complicated by the lack of a cover identity; he’s going in as James Bond. He also has to work alongside a crew made up of recognisable Bond-villain archetypes: the blonde assassin, the hulking brute and the femme fatale.

I don’t think having the name Bond or James Bond in the title is good. See No Deals, Mr. Bond. It’s just a bland title. Now, if they were to ever to do 007 In New York and use only the title, then I think they should drop the New York part and just go with 007. That’s the only part of his name/codename that would work for a title.

And having said that, here’s the titles I’d prefer:

Ian Fleming: Risico
It’s the best remaining title of the Fleming short stories.

John Gardner – License Renewed
It is very appropriate with Amazon now taking over from EON, and it has as good of a story as any of the other continuation adventures that could still work in the present day.

Raymond Benson – High Time To Kill
Start out the new Bond and new filmmakers with a new villainous organization.

Other continuation authors – Carte Blanche
Colonel Sun needs to have seasoned Bond trying to rescue M, so it would be inappropriate for Amazon to do it right out of the gate.

Likewise, Anthony Horowitz’s Trigger Mortis and With A Mind To Kill, which are either too '50s and ‘60s set. Only his Forever And A Day would work, but we recently (20 years ago) had a Bond begins story. I’d be okay with FAAD, but I’d rather not do it at this time. As for Sebastian Faulks’ Devil May Care and William Boyd’s Solo, they aren’t in the right timeline as currently constructed. And as for Charlie Higson’s On His Majesty’s Secret Service, it’s not the right story, and King Zero just came out.

Only Jeffrey Deaver’s Carte Blanche checks all the boxes for the rest of the continuation authors. It’s modern and it’s a reboot, although it doesn’t have the most action-packed story.

But if I had to choose one title/story to go with it would be Gardner’s License Renewed.

As for a title I made up, I like Memories Never Die. Although admittedly, we have had way too many titles with “die” or “kill” lately.

Given the reboot and the new creative team, this may be the perfect moment in the series’ history for a film called Carte Blanche.

Risico might be fitting, too :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Given the state of the reboot industry I would not be surprised if the next film were called GOLDFINGER.
