This is one of the big problems with this project, in my view. Bond should be portrayed as an older agent with some experience. Even in Casino Royale, which has Bond as a rookie Double-oh agent, he’s still an experienced agent who clearly has a grasp of what he’s doing out in the field from a tactical perspective. So far, this project just looks like they decided to throw Uncharted, Hitman, and the trust issues of the Brosnan/Craig films into a blender.
I think going this route is an example of IO doing their own thing and not directly mirroring the films. He’s touching his earpiece when Craig warned Carter not to. The general idea that Gibson Bond is before that level of experience, not even having earned his 00 licence yet. The Uncharted and Hitman influences are there, but if merging two excellent game franchises together is a problem then it’s a good problem to have.
Looks like we’re finally getting to see the Valhalla in action.
Love it, and the guns look great. Apparently there’s a good chance Lana Del Rey will be doing the song, and the game is now finished and in the polishing phase. Really can’t wait until March.
This blurb and a video was posted to the 007 socials, and has since been deleted.
He rose from nothing, broke free, and built his own Kingdom of Aleph.
Introducing Bawma, the largest black-market dealer in the Western Hemisphere who’s as charismatic as he is unpredictable. Brought to life by the one and only Lenny Kravitz.
Caught this early in the morning before it was taken down. Interesting choice to pull Kravitz. The footage looks good. It appears his lair is what looked like a disused cargo ship that’s been broken up and planted on land (I’ll need to see the footage again to be sure). There was also an interesting shot of Bond on a cliffside in what looks like the Alps (giving very Uncharted 4 vibes). All looking good. They used the OHMSS theme again for a few seconds. I’m hoping we get some new music with the next trailer.
It’s back up now:
Lenny Kravitz was definitely not on my bingo card for this game but fine by me. Has the same energy as Mya in Everything or Nothing. The difference, at least to date, is that he isn’t performing the title song. I’m even more curious who their main villain will be.
Yes, and that game’s side bosses like Yayakov and Le Rogue. I’m really liking the more lighthearted Bond. It’s the closest we’ve had to a modern Moore complete with fictitious locations ala San Monique.
Getting Kravitz is a smart move as it creates a lot of buzz outside the world of gaming. I don’t think that many German media outlets have reported much about First Light until now, but now they do.
And of course, there’s your usual bunch of reporters who are incapable of reading a press release and write rubbish. Such as my local newspaper (a former employer of mine, and I know the guy who should have known better)…
“Villain of the day: Lenny Kravitz.
We don’t know yet who’s going to be the next James Bond or when the next movie is going to be out. But it is confirmed now that the 61 year old US rock star is going to play Bond’s next opponent.”
Gentlemen, start your engines… ![]()
Disappointing, but ultimately for the best. I was hoping to play First Light for a good two months before Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight came out, but now they’re releasing within days of each other.
Speculation is that Lana Del Rey will be singing the theme song. A new song was registered with the title “First Light” to the artist named Elizabeth Grant (Lana Del Rey’s real name). It makes a lot of sense as her signature vintage sound would be perfect for a Bond theme. She submitted a song for Spectre, though I admit (painfully as I am a big Lana Del Rey fan and not really a Sam Smith fan), but I think the producers made the right decision with Writing’s on the Wall.
The cover image is excellent.
Thankfully that’s just the cover for the latest issue of Game Informer. It leaves a lot to be desired. Makes the game look like a cheap Call of Duty clone.
The only thing that looks “Bond” on this is the name on the helmet ![]()
The opening segment, no doubt. I’m interested in exploring this part of the timeline in doses, especially in print and games. The Young Bond stuff by Higson and Dynamite is all top quality in my opinion.
Yep, and we had enough of those with the Activision Bond games. Looking at you, 007 Legends. I’m guessing the cover art will just be that promotional shot we’ve seen of Bond with the 007 First Light logo superimposed over him.
Yes, for clarity I was referring to the fact that the image in question appears to be the cover photo for the magazine I linked to, not the game itself. Should have been clearer on that!
I’m also surprised others don’t like it! I find it incredibly refreshing, largely because we know from the first trailer that that segment of the game is the very beginning. The military buzz cut makes sense in this context. But the imagery of the young man, battered and bloodied but still standing as the sun blazes behind him, is pretty heroic in a way we haven’t seen in a while for this character. Pretty neat stuff imo.
