Looking splendid. I’m long past games myself but this seems like great fun. I’ve only watched a few minutes of this and the whole thing looks immersive and the character interaction quite interesting. My only gripe with this clip: I’d try to park the Jaguar pointing towards the exit. But then I suppose the script demands a getaway by that mustard yellow Aston as seen in the preview. Anyway, this might give Bond gamers quite a ride next March.
Man, when was the last time we got the full Bond theme in any promotional material for anything? Pretty cool.
Insane to consider that this game is being released almost 20 years from the release of Casino Royale. For a lot of players this will be their first interaction with Bond. Unreal.
Alright, the story has me hooked. It feels like Everything or Nothing, in some ways. It comes out on my birthday week! Last year on my birthday week we got 3 announcements: Connery 4K Blu-rays, Heyman and Pascal officially took over, and Felix Leiter in The Hook and the Eye. A nice birthday week for me!
Summary
For those who think Greenway is a villain, I think 009 is enough of a MI6 threat alone. I would be somewhat surprised if Greenway is a villain. I still think we’ll get a surprise villain.
Yeah, that’s good to hear again after so long. I love how epic the action sequences are and the Bond personality shines through. I’m liking the quipping such as “you lads got a faulty coffee machine?” Even if Bond 7 is more serious, at least IO are providing a fun and fantastical experience.
I feel you. I think I’ll be buying the Specialist Edition, which has everything from the standard edition plus the tuxedo skin - which I really want. I’m not too bothered with the golden gun from the Collector’s Edition. For the high price that has it’s odd to me it lacks the tuxedo.
Seems like the Specialist Edition is an Amazon exclusive. In that case I’ll just pre-order now for the deluxe edition content. I’m pretty sure the tuxedo and any other skins will be made available some time after the initial release period.
I think Patrick Gibson is a good fit for the part. He’s energetic, full of life and charismatic enough to build a connection with. It’s the small touches like throwing his hat like a frisbee into the back of the car or catching things midair. This is Bond at the peak of his cockiness.
Everything shown off so far has been excellent. IO Interactive are absolutely the best studio to take this on. I think 007 First Light could be Game of the Year material, which is saying a lot.
One of the better Bond products in a long, long time in any case. I think fans are generally receptive to what they’ve seen, but there’s a segment in online discourse that are way too negative and thrive on finding reasons not to enjoy something. Which seems to be a trend with a lot of things these days and not just this. The attitude seems to be ‘the old games are the best and nothing else will ever compare’.
I like past content as well but that militant attitude is dumb. If that’s their attitude their fandom is destined to stay exclusively in the past. We are allowed to like both, and let’s not pretend modern gaming can’t improve upon what was done before. I see the spirit of previous titles in here mixed in with something new, which makes it clear to me the project trends in the positive direction.
It’s just rage bait. For whatever reason, hate is a bigger motivator. Rage bait videos seem to always have more views than those that don’t engage with that crap. They do it with everything and I agree, it’s tiring. We see it all the time. I don’t have time or energy to put up with the negativity anymore.
They’re taking a similar approach to David Arnold’s CR with the Bond Theme. I’m okay with that, especially if the original content is appropriately epic and lush. The article makes me wonder if other Barry cues will feature at certain points, like the OHMSS instrumental did during the trailer. It also seems apparent to me we will get a song performed by an artist announced at some point.
A long video, but they have been huge proponents for Hitman over the years, and know much Bond has bled in to Hitman games particularly with the last two, so I’m intrigued what they’re thoughts are going to be on this.
Seems to be a similar function to Miss Nagai in Everything or Nothing.
Why the game was tackled by IO in the first place:
Speaking to Edge, Hakan Abrak expressed how pleased he was that his team at IO Interactive was entrusted to turn 007: First Light into an origin story for Bond, rather than an exploration of an existing interpretation of the character. That trust, he says, was so important that “otherwise, this project would not have happened.”
I like that we’re getting a young Bond, even if he’s younger than we’re used to. The screenshot of him wearing sunglasses and smirking feels so right to me after the aged warrior of the Craig era. If it happens in the films too I’ll see how I feel then. But at least in the games it feels like the general reset we need.
