007 First Light - IO Interactive

Thing is the market for novelisations went downwards its own niche with the years and never recovered. Commissioning one isn’t worth the trouble when people rather watch the film itself in a fraction of the time they need to read the tie-in.

However, depending on how Amazon wants to approach monetising their property, there is a chance they could branch out into that niche too, even with human writers. Nothing would stop them, especially when they are effectively their own publisher and needn’t care about these things selling in physical stores. They might exclusively publish on Kindle Unlimited and give that program a push. Selling another generation of their readers at the same go.

The last time I really remember seeing novelizations was around 2008 (I remember reading both of the novelizations for Iron Man and the Dark Knight). I wish that IFP had commissioned novelizations of Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall. Alas, the Bond books themselves are already niche as it is and I don’t think IFP want to invest any money in a novelization.

They would be hard pressed to do a novelization of a new Bond film. Since Bond would, in theory, appear in this new film, he’d have to appear in the book as well, and we just don’t do that anymore.

Maybe a new James Bond Jr. pop up book series that jumps off from this new Uncharted game.

I would love to read the Iron Man and The Dark Knight novelizations. I don’t think that QOS could be adapted while filming, as the script was in constant change (more than a normal movie, anyway).

Also, @dalton is optimistic, as always.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I have them anymore. They were good reads if I remember correctly. I believe The Dark Knight’s final line was very slightly different to the film being “A dark knight” instead of “the dark knight”.

Why are the Uncharted comparisons being used derogatorily? I’ve wanted an Uncharted-like James Bond game since the first Uncharted way back in 2007. 007 First Light seems like it was given far more attention and care than anything Activision gave us during their relatively abysmal run with the license.

The film uses “A Dark Knight” not read the novelisation to know if its different there.

Haven’t watched it all yet but what I have has been interesting.

Good episode, and reaffirms my confidence in this team. I quite like the idea of Bond taking style cues ( ha) from Q. It’s always fun to see those two characters play off each other.

In the past you could tell Q had affection for Bond despite his annoyed facade. It’s those little moments that make it such a special relationship. The Greenway relationship should be even more interesting to watch evolve. I suspect he will be mostly won over by the end despite still having issues with Bond’s approach. Something M is more lenient about.

They’re holding a lot back. Building enough recognition of the game’s existence while maintaining a sense of mystery. There’s a sizeable market of Hitman/IO fans who are already aware of their next project which is a built in advantage. Bond fans are aware of it.

If the reviews are favourable then the wait and see general market gets activated and we’re looking at something above successful.

The 009 dynamic has a lot of potential. Someone much older who worked in the previous iteration of the 00 section who could serve as a mentor in the opposite function of Q and Greenway. Warning and mocking Bond about the organisation he’s just getting into. If he has legitimately good points that makes it even better.

If they went down this route I’d rather prequels or lead-in material to another game, ala Arkham Knight, provided one gets made. I think this universe has potential to grow and create its own mythology and fanbase. IO had a ‘Birth of the Hitman’ comic run. It creates momentum and fills gaps in the timeline rather than retelling something we already have.

The woman voicing the new M (Priyanga Burford) coincidentally played one of the scientists killed after the opening titles of No Time to Die.

I really enjoy listening to experienced people like Michael Vogt. It’s like a dream job but also not something anybody can just do. Again, I like we have a ton of unseen footage from the game. I’m imagining what the motorcycle chase sequences are going to be like. The first play through is going to be better than Christmas Day.

Already looking into pre-ordering it

It really is bonkers how much stuff we have coming our way in the next six months. What a way to reopen the valve.

It’s just a gold PS5 controller with the 007 logo slapped on but damn it, they’ve got me.

I’ll be preordering.

Yeah, I feel the same way. A Bond game doesn’t come around often. No word on Australian availability, but I’ll be watching like a hawk.

An extra $10-15 surcharge for a controller with the 007 logo on it on top of them already raising the prices on the Playstation consoles to an absolutely absurd level? Yeah… no.
