Lana Del Rey and David Arnold, interesting…
And for what it’s worth it’s already on iTunes
It’s so good to have David Arnold back. The song will definitely grow on me. Some fun and clever lyrics.
Finally confirmed, this song is fire.
Arnold’s work on this is great, ballady but upbeat, and I’m happy to have him back in the fold again. It’s a song that suits the medium, and can see it being effective in that context. Meta comments about playing life like a game, having lives, plus referencing Bond’s youth. I’m liking it more with each listen.
After the mega downer of yesterday’s Cinemcon non-statement this is a very pleasant surprise! Campy and almost defiantly on the nose but it works in this context. Positioning this Bond as Icarus is a pretty neat idea, too. Looking forward to seeing what they cooked up for a title sequence.
Boring mix of the 10 things they thought we liked in the last 10 songs…just my opinion though…
Title sequence tomorrow!
Yes! I’ll be there front and center
The Bond games with original songs have a pretty good track record IMO. I really like I’ll Take It All by Joss Stone. It’s energetic and like a burst of energy. I’d already rank First Light up there - I just love that theatrical Bond melody it has. Everything or Nothing and Nightfire have their own atmosphere too and are nostalgic.
Nightfire is high on my list. Cool lyrics and a unique sound for Bond. I also like Bloodstone’s theme tune. This is growing on me (works better when you don’t see the lyrics IMO). Excited to see it in our first new title sequence in years!
I don’t like Lana (stands side by side with Eilish in the category of singing like you just wake up and are too sleepy to pronounce words in front of a microphone) but David Arnold really saves it with great and vibrant tunes that actually made me forget about her vocal tone.
Actually liked it and so far the video game is ticking all the boxes as a console gamer and Bond fan.
The way Arnold builds things up towards the end is what sells it for me.
I’m annoyed Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is releasing so closely, but it’s First Light all the way for me. I’m playing it exclusively for as long as it takes. It’s been years since something new like this and everything else can wait.
As a fan I initially expected something more distinctive from Lana Del Rey. But the song grew on me, in spite of the odd line that seems just a tad too long to fit in. The lyrics slyly wink at Bond, at the game, at us. And it uses Del Rey’s own flavour of Crumbawl as you would expect.
First impression: not a good song, nor a memorable melody. I agree with @Dustin: the lyrics fit not that comfortably into the music. And they also are quite bland.
Imagine this sung not by a famous performer.
Does not work for me.
I’m afraid it wouldn’t generate half as much media attention then. That said, Del Rey’s lyrics are often a little quirky by design; maybe it’s a feature not a bug here. I just have the feeling this could/would have been a bit more streamlined had this come from another artist.
But then it wouldn’t have been a Lana Del Rey song. ![]()
I really liked it. It gave me the excitement I always get when a film’s title track is unveiled. Looking forward to the main titles being shown later!
Which is why you are here, and not the Lego Aficionado server.
We see and appreciate you sharpshooter.
Live stream at 8 and they’ll be talking the music. I imagine Lana Del Rey and David Arnold will be featured.
The return of David Arnold and Charlie Higson to Bond has made rewatch Randall and Hopkirk (deceased)
