A View to a Kill

As an almost mature 47 year old I can see the ALL of the faults with AVTAK. But in the back of my mind I can remember the 6 year old me loving the hype on UK TV for this film, the slots on Barry Norman’s TV show, the preview of the Fire Engine scene, a year later getting to watch the film on VHS on a Saturday evening and spending weekends with my friends reenacting the Golden Gate fight scene, also that strange vibe around Gladys Jones looking back it was down to the overt sexuality, to my young mind this was adventurous and sexy stuff. How old Roger Moore was playing the role was didn’t even even enter my head, he was THE Bond of my young times, THAT bloke who jumped off a snowy cliff with a Union Jack parachute at Christmas. This was some cool shit. For all the Bond films faults, this is why I will always love them. AVTAK is a kick ass film. All the better for the cheese :joy:

Great post. The films of our childhood cannot be beaten and the cheese added to the love affair. No other action hero had the flair of Moore Bond even during his last hurrah. A cover version of California Girls playing unabashedly while he snowboards like a pro isn’t a vibe to be fought.

Bond isn’t the standard action grunt. He gets the job done with style and humour, as the lyrics to Nobody Does It Better explain. He was Moore Bond right to the end regardless of his age. Which really, I don’t think is a problem even when viewing this as an adult who likes character arcs. If you’re putting James Bond on the screen give the people what they want. The man at peak performance.
