Maybe they have to accept that Leto isn´t leading man material…and starting the Bond franchise from scratch I think there was never a doubt about that Bond was around 30
Another interesting detail in the EON note is that the transaction was completed on February 20, meaning Amazon MGM Studios’ spy signing went under the radar for more than a month before being announced.
I’d argue after deliberately leaking the ‘effing idiots’ comment in late December 2024, the bridges between Eon House and Amazon were wholly built from charred wood and ashes anyway. The sellout came more as a shock than a surprise from that point onwards. With hindsight it was really the only way to break the stalemate and advance BOND 26 - for better or worse.
Good on them they could at least keep their feet still till the deed was done.
I hope they got at least one more zero.
Hasn’t the Eon/Amazon spat been going at article-ping pong for a time already during the second half of 2024 if memory serves? Perfectly possible the comment was reported significantly later than it was made.
It’s also been suggested Bezos supposedly pushed for the buyout - whatever it takes - after the comment was made. So all that was left to do was agree on a number on the cheque then and be done with it. But the general idea to take control of Bond must have been on the table from the very beginning of Amazon’s MGM takeover. Every industry watcher knew about the peculiarities of the Bond franchise.
Maybe both parties were just looking for a way to get there without losing (too much) face.
At the time of the MGM sale we already speculated about a possible loggerheads situation looming - in this thread some years upstream? - and Amazon having unlimited time and resources to sit out Eon if necessary. That buyout plan must have been sitting for some time with the powers that were - Amazon and Eon both.
When BB repeatedly said it would be a long time until we see a new Bond film I believe everything was already decided on her side.
These days - thanks to hindsight of course - it even feels as if NO TIME TO DIE was already one big farewell to the era of Eon. I wonder, when you’re about to kill off your central franchise character (even if it’s just ‘temporarily’) and you show zero evidence afterwards you’ve got the next steps mapped out, no presentable activities, no noises even - is that not telling enough in itself?
I agreee
She will be asked.
My extremely early shots in the dark: Sydney is included in the cast, and the film is called For King and Country.
This is just a normal part of the process at this point; whoever the hot young star of the day is gets rumored to be the next Bond girl.
Given all of the recent changes and uncertainty it’s almost comforting that the rumor mill is business as usual.
I don’t think we know what parts of the process are normal anymore. It may be normal for early leaks to be accurate.

Makes sense that Amazon wanted Bond - they have a really bad reputation and need to polish that.
They’ve taken Fox’s mantle of bad employer.
Aggressive agent using all buzz words…
Also, Amazon has a real problem with its profile: there’s a bit of everything from sci-fi to romcom to crime - but few things that really stand out. Amidst lots of mediocre stuff there’s not a lot that appeals to a broad demographic range. If you’re not a Reacher/The Boys/LotR superfan chances are most of Amazon’s offerings will leave you cold. Even Netflix has established some form of profile where audiences know they can expect a certain bankable standard with adaptations and IP care. And where Amazon invested serious money, that LotR prequel, it was burned without much impact beyond its niche audience.
Rumor for now.
Weren’t these old rumours already debunked (period film etc.)?
