I’m new to the site and I’m wondering if anyone could tell me in which film does Bond visit a Harley St dentist?
Welcome to the boards, John178.
If this ever happened in a Bond film, I missed it. The only dental office I remember was in Diamonds Are Forever, but that was in South Africa and Bond wasn’t in the scene at all.
Thanks very much for the welcome, David.
I’m sure you’re right - I may have imagined it.
They could be missing a trick for a few laughs though.
Cheers,
John
Welcome @John178!
Off the top of my head I only recall literary Bond in connection with dentists. In Moonraker he’s recalling his dentist explaining Drax’ particular incisors displacement as a likely result of thumb sucking (a theory by now debunked, I think).
And in You Only Live Twice, Bond skips most of his after lunch duty, spending the time in the park instead. Back at HQ M wants to see him and Bond lies about having had to see the dentist.
In that chapter Bond’s odyssey through Harley Street, Wigmore Street and Wimpole Street is mentioned, seeking help for his depression, alas without success.
Ha! Thank you, Dustin. I wasn’t expecting all that (Mr Bond).
I’ve not read a 007 novel yet, but I have Goldfinger waiting in the wings.
Cheers!
Goldfinger is certainly a good place to start the novels. It’s close to the film, yet just different enough to make us curious to learn more about this version of Bond. I myself started with Moonraker - that hadn’t yet been adapted back then - and this book is vastly different from anything I had seen on the screen before. There’s much to discover in the literary Bond.
I think we can safely apply that phrase to Fleming’s views on a wide range of subjects.
