Your favourite Craig Bond film by villain - be it actor or role or both

In soliciting your vote, Bro-Feld would like to remind you that technically he is the sole villain. I do not like to be reminded of this, so he can sod off sideways.

Favourite Craig Bond film by leading lady - be it actor or role or both

FWIW, I’d say M is the major female character of Skyfall, but this is only because it pleases me to think of Judi Dench in a moistened bikini

Favourite title song for a Craig Bond film

Bro-Feld would like to remind you that he sang all of these. Also, that he invented the helicopter, the crotchless wetsuit, cress and his dad is bigger than yours. Even if he is also yours and likes you more (…sob).

Seventeen bars of the score for Spectre are different to the Skyfall score, so it just squeaks in as a choice on its own.

Bro-feld seems oddly familiar…is he tweeting those by any chance?

Can’t believe there is actually one person who chooses QoS as movie with favorite henchman. You have to have some kind of humour to chose that one.

Agree with jamesb that selecting Elvis is the definition of “irony.”!

But as aside, QoS contains the best secondary villain (Medrano) in the whole series. In fact you could make an argument that he, not Greene, is the primary villain. Definitely feels that this combo works better than say, TLD’s Koskov and Whittaker. The latter sidelined for the bulk of the film and Koskov just not threatening enough.

QOS could indeed have done with less Greene and more Medrano. Greene and Elvis are the Craig equivalent to Sluggsy and Horror, far too kitchen-sink prosaic for a 00 to take on.

Elvis did have an appreciation thread on here for a while, based on fans’ love of:-

  • his trousers coming off just before he explodes / dies

  • “What a wonderful evening”

  • falling and his toupee coming off

  • weird smiles on the plane with Beam and Felix

  • “Touch me and I’ll break your wrist” - Camille’s threat to Elvis is one of the most underrated lines in the entire franchise.

Before NTTD comes out to challenge the other categories, I see things like this:

Villain: Skyfall
Leading lady: Casino Royale
Scheme: Casino Royale
Henchperson: SPECTRE
Craig performance: Casino Royale
Title song: No Time To Die
Score: Skyfall
Pre-credits sequence: Quantum of Solace
Title sequence: Skyfall

Silva, Vesper and Hinx strike me as the obvious choices in their fields.

The plot of Casino Royale being a Fleming original gives it added meaning, and I appreciate the desperation of Le Chiffre in attempting to recoup the money.

Craig’s debut in Casino Royale really was barnstorming, even though I think his SPECTRE performance was the most balanced. No doubt NTTD will be even better.

You Know My Name and Skyfall are quality songs, though I’m surprised just how much I like Billie’s. The melody is gorgeous and the lyrics speak to me. I’m going with that at the moment.

Unless Hans Zimmer changes my mind, I think Thomas Newman gave the best modern Bond sound with Skyfall. Introspective and lush where necessary. I often revisit his Bond work.

The pre-credit sequences from the Craig era have all been good, really. But I like the car chase from Quantum of Solace the most. Short, sharp and leaves an impression.

I love your description of Craig’s performance in SPECTRE as balanced. It has always struck me as his finest, where–as you say–he balances all the elements/sides of the Bondian personality (as presented in earlier films–both his and others) into one multifaceted and highly polished whole.

And for the first time since Casino Royale, Bond seems to be enjoying himself throughout the film.

I agree, but isn’t it intentional? The Bond of QOS and Skyfall is doubting the choices he’s made, the Bond of CR and Spectre is comfortable with his lot in life until he find’s (to quote OHMSS) “something better to do”

I can understand that for Quantum Of Solace, but Skyall supposedly takes place much later, not soon after QOS. His character’s attitude/outlook for Skyfall should be about where he’s at in SPECTRE. Sure, he’s a bit hurt/miffed that M okayed the shot by Moneypenny, but he’s supposed to be a tough, seasoned professional by now. Besides, this is supposed to the be same guy who callously dumps Rene Mathis’ body in the garbage saying Mathis wouldn’t mind. Without stating it, he’s saying it’s all part of the job. Well, that’s what comes with being a 00–and potentially getting shot from long range by friendly fire comes with that too, which a seasoned professional would understand–may not like, but would understand. Also, after QOS, he is supposed to be the Bond we all know and love, but in Skyfall, at least in spirit, he isn’t.

If Skyfall took place soon after Quantum Of Solace, I might feel differently. But it doesn’t. Bond films are supposed to be fun, escapist entertainment with a 007 enjoying his job for the most part. Skyfall doesn’t feel that way, which is probably why I prefer SPECTRE. Ironically, I think Sam Mendes did a better job and made better decisions pretty much all the way around as a director on Skyfall than he did on SPECTRE, and yet I enjoy/prefer SPECTRE more, and I think a lot of that has to do with Bond enjoying himself more in it than Skyfall, as well as finally being the Bond we all know and love.

Maybe that is why I do not rate those films highly. Narratives of doubt can be boring if a viewer does not share/not experienced those particular doubt inclinations (I also do not like "Hamlet, " so go figure).

SPECTRE Bond no longer doubts–the transformation into Robot Bond is complete. What I find interesting is his eventual rejection of the automaton role for a rediscovered humanity.

Indeed. What excites me about the Bond of NTTD is the potential to be on par with the Bond of Casino Royale in terms of character growth. Vesper’s presence never went away throughout his films, so her ghost is always lingering in the background. The fallout with Madeleine brings new issues to deal with.

Well he does joke with Moneypenny about her shooting him.
