I voted the straight MOONRAKER ticket, but admit that in the categories of favorite Moore Bond by performance and by villain, TMWTGG was a close second. I love Moore’s and Lee’s performances, even as I acknowledge that moving in a different direction in TSWLM was a wise choice for both Moore and the franchise.
I think Scaramanga just pips Drax because I like the dark mirror to Bond component, but both villains are effectively tied as the best of the Moore era, IMO. Drax’s scheme is literally more out there, and got my vote in that category. The most memorable plot in the franchise.
It was actually very close to the template they eventually settled on with TSWLM and MR, rather than TMWTGG, but with less big budget polish. Very fun and rewatchable movie.
If you take the music from LALD, the villain from TMWTGG, the stunts from TSWLM, the plot from FYEO, and the fun elements of Moonraker and Octopussy, you’re onto an excellent Bond movie.
