I didn’t read the young Bond novels after Higson, and I only finished By Royal Command this year. Are the rest any good?
I would rank them as:
- Heads You Die (2016)
- Red Nemesis (2017)
- Strike Lightning (2016)
- Shoot To Kill (2014)
They take place post-Eton. Heads You Die and Red Nemesis are very solid adventures with HYD ranking among the best of Charlie Higson’s efforts, I think. And Strike Lightning is enjoyable although it is done as a Young Bond meets Steampunk style genre, which I suppose, is fine for a one-off. Shoot To Kill I wasn’t as wild about, but it is ok–more along the lines of Higson’s SilverFin but not quite as good.
