Strikes me how nearly all of MOONRAKER’s deaths - notable exception: the scientists in the secret Venice laboratory - are played for laughs/comic relief. Chang sticking out from the piano, sniper falling from his tree, even the gondolier stopping the knife and the knife thrower after that; they all go on a note of slapstick.
MOONRAKER concerns itself with industrial scale murder by gassing most of the human population, a race of Übermenschen descending from the skies to rule over the planet - but tonally it conceals its horrifying theme entirely under a Saturday matinee atmosphere. Not sure any of the others go to such lengths to play the innocent entertainment. Or do it so well.
