MR is definitely in the higher rung, but in my opinion TLD and OHMSS are the best two soundtracks in the series. If push comes to shove I’m picking TLD.
I admire that it contains three songs from popular artists (which are actually all great) spliced throughout the score amongst various other motifs. We hadn’t seen that approach before, and it hasn’t happened since.
Like OHMSS there are no skippable tracks as a listening experience. The album is strongly expanded already, and there are other priorities right now, but I’d sure love to see a remastered deluxe La La Land edition at some point.
In a series of score masterpieces the best for me will always remain…
The 1979er.
Recency bias may factor in as I just got Lalaland’s MR score in the mail, but it’s always been my favorite and will likely remain so.
Interestingly, DAF is probably in second place for me. Interesting because for a series devoted to thrills, fights and big stunts, I seem to have gravitated towards the two most laid-back, lush scores in the series.
Ha. Moonraker…gravitated…
I went for:
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service over Goldfinger
Diamonds Are Forever over Thunderball
The Living Daylights over You Only Live Twice
The Spy Who Loved Me over Moonraker
