I went with:
Diamonds Are Forever over Moonraker
Goldfinger over On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Love to see the continued trend of OHMSS and MR dominating.
In OHMSS you have the snowshredder, but what else? In Goldfinger you have after being shot the car crushed scene, the Oddjob got electrified scene and the sucked out of the plane scene. I am not sure why people chose OHMSS, do I miss something I am not thinking off?
Well, there is the death of Shaun Campbell, Bond’s ally in Switzerland, a henchman choked with a ski and then thrown off of a cliff to his death, the worldwide threat of Virus Omega (a literal existential threat to the the continuation of mankind), but most importantly, you have the death of Tracy, which creates a shadow over everything that follows until CR.
Aaaah! I see now where my mistake is coming from. The whole time I was thinking that the deaths have to be the most outrageous and original, that is the only thing I was looking at. So just killed by a bullet I was not realy counting.
Only treats I don’t count, it have to be real kills.
PS: Is that Cambell guy realy choked with a ski? I have never noticed this if I am honest, I even saw this movie a few days ago. I always assumed that he was tortured to death and than as a warning was hanged at the mountain to scare off other curious visitors.
No, Campbell is captured and displayed hanging upside down to demoralize the captured Bond. He is not a henchman (villain’s assistant). I was referring to the guy who is part of the group that pursues Bond on his escape down the slopes from Piz Gloria who gets knocked silly by Bond with the ski and then is choked with it prior to being hurled off the edge of the cliff before Bond descends into the village below.
And yes, I didn’t see it as the most outrageous deaths as much as the significance of the deaths (real and threatened by the villain’s plan). Hence, Stromberg’s, Drax’s, and Blofeld’s OHMSS plans are extreme threats to the existence of greater mankind. But maybe that’s just my interpretation.
All that said, Tracy’s death is HUGE within the context of the original canon of films pre-Craig’s reboot.
If memory serves some of the Spectre goons are also trapped in the avalanche that stops Tracy and Bond. These guys most likely didn’t get a search party. Then there’s that other minion that gets stopped by a tree during the first part of the chase; also unlikely to profit from Spectre’s mandatory health insurance. And while the grenades used during the Piz Gloria raid are by now as ordinary as the guns and SMGs, the flamethrower certainly isn’t and the guys shown to be incinerated would probably want to file a complaint.
Yes, there are deaths aplenty happening on the periphery throughout OHMSS.
Ok, I’m convinced! I will change my vote!
Somehow I completely forgot about all that.
And I didn’t want admid this, this afternoon, but I also completely forgot about Tracy’s death.
Hum… Maybe and I want to strongly emphasize maybe, but going as late to bed as I do during my holiday (around 4-5 o’clock in the morning) isn’t maybe very healthy for the brain?
Does Blofeld call Morton Slumber to remove the corpse of his double?
Grunther also underestimated Piz Gloria’s interior design.
