Once again, let me shower you with compliments and gratitude for doing this and Sideswipes, and as it is customary for me, I am already getting withdrawal symptoms until next time.

Is my life that empty? No. But it is so much more enjoyable to log on to CBn and discuss Bond than having to do all those things which need to be done to, you know, earn money or plan the demise of people who are a pest in this world.

Right now I zero in on those idiots who even after New Year‘s Eve are still throwing explosives around, making my cat shiver and feel as if the world is ending.

I think exploding certain body parts of these guys would be fun.

The really remarkable thing is, our community can justifiably claim to concern itself above average not only with the Bond film series but the entire Bond phenomenon, from the pages of Fleming to the ramifications of corporate ownership and merchandise deals with their respective products. We dissect films and books in search for significance and deeper understanding.

And yet, like with much of the ‘ordinary’, average audience, GOLDFINGER is showing a disproportionately strong standing in our ongoing Deathmatch. The film that stands like no other for the series as a whole still towers above most of what came after in several categories. In spite of its many shortcomings, questionable plot, treatment of women and laughable sfx - GOLDFINGER must have done something very right.

GOLDFINGER simply has a taste of home cooking, a taste of mom (or better: grandma)…

First, thank you Jim for all you do, and the precision and care with which it is done.

Second:

It struck a chord in 1964, becoming a (possibly accidental) template. When voting occurs, we are often left with a choice between the first iteration and subsequent manifestations.

Also, there is an integrity to Hamilton’s approach/direction that supplies an appealing consistency. We may not like certain elements, but the throughline is attractive.

New category being considered for 2026 - Story.

Might shake things up a bit. Might.
