Drawn to 007 - Dynamite’s new hardcovers and beyond

I’ve read issue one, and it’s a return to form. Jason Masters is my favourite Bond artist but I really like Luca Casalanguida’s work, and wouldn’t have a problem with all the comics looking like this.

The concept of Bond working for the enemy doesn’t rub me the wrong way. He’s done it before with Goldfinger and Sanchez. Should be a lot of fun, and make it more than just a run of the mill adventure.

There’s a real McLusky vibe to his work that I’m enjoying, think it’s an intentional call back?

Not dynamite, but an interresting article that explain there was a Bond comics “rip-off” with Charles Bronson : https://www.commander007.net/2021/killer-quand-charles-bronson-remplacait-bond/

Intriguing, haven’t heard about this before.

As Agent of Spectre comes to an end, Dynamite have announced their next series James Bond: Himeros

Edit: Google Rodney Barnes to see how much of a coup this is for Dynamite

Heavy themes there. I’ll be interested to see how they handle them. Agent of SPECTRE was one of my favourite arcs, and it would make for a very thrilling film.

I was a bit disappointed when I first found Agent of Spectre was going to be 5 chapters rather than the six the rest were (or, indeed, 12 that Oddjob was) but having now read it, i totally get what they were going for with its breakneck pace, not giving you a single second to catch your breath.

Issue #2 continues the comic book adventures of the world’s most famous spy – James Bond! While the setting exudes the allure of sun, sand and fun, this deadly island is no playtime retreat! Its sun, sand and misery for all those who visit, and up to Bond to put an end to the deadly circle once and for all!

This run is again 5 issues, which I’m actually enjoying. It gives it a breakneck pace and makes sure not a single panel is wasted.

As a side note; reread Reflections of Death the other day and I noticed that, towards the end, Bond calls Moneypenny “Eve” - doesn’t that make her completely Eon’s Moneypenny? Looks like Naomie Harris…fills the same more involved role her Moneypenny does…shares the same first name…

Sad news. I’m happy he did what he did. Fingers crossed for Moonraker!

The (BIG MIDDLE FINGER) algorithm won’t let me show my excitement. The M story is one of the most accurate depictions of The Troubles I’ve ever seen!

We’d be at a loss to loose these writers

Is this 12 issue series or a 6 issue one? Any guesses on who the villain is? Is the title really 007 like some of the other ones? I’m guessing it will be a familiar face.

OO7 is back in action! After a high-stakes rescue mission is mysteriously, violently sabotaged, Bond’s future at MI6 hangs in the balance. As he awaits his fate, James Bond is urgently contacted by an old flame and mentor: Gwendolyn Gann, formerly Agent OO3, who warns Bond of an existential threat to England and the global balance of power. But before they can meet, OO3 turns up dead, sending Bond on the most personal mission of his career: find Gwendolyn Gann’s killers, and expose the shadowy organization known only as “Myrmidon.”

Until whatever the next Bond project is, which will then be “his most personal mission ever”.

I’m waiting for the story where Bond has to fill out his paperwork for expenses, and has to face down his dreaded enemy - THE DEPARTMENT OF WORK AND PENSIONS!!!

What a fresh approach: his future at Mi6 is at stake…

Unclear on the length. So previous series have been titled James Bond or James Bond 007, I think this is the first that is just 007. I do appreciate that the new logo seems to be inspired in part by John Dee’s 007 signature in letters to Queen Elizabeth I:

Thanks for the tip. Didn’t get too many story details, but got more of a feel of where he comes from with Bond. Apparently his favorite novel is actually Forever And A Day and his favorite film is Casino Royale. He said he wants to bring more of the intelligence work aspect to it, and was inspired by le Carré and Ed Brubaker’s Velvet comics. There will be an aspect of Bond’s world weariness rubbing up against the patriotism made him join up in the first place. It’s up in the air how many issues it will be, but at least six issues.
