They learned the lesson from āJohn Wickā: donāt end it when itĀ“s still going strong.
Today is one of those days where I found out things lined up perfectly. Mission: Impossible is released Monday. I happen to have Monday off work. Just booked tickets for an IMAX screening.
Please tell us what you think of it!
Iāve also got my IMAX ticket for Monday. Early access screening at my local AMC.
Looking forward to your review.
It comes out this Saturday for me, and Iāll be there.
So funny that Rooney in THR actually praises DePalmaās first Mission film as giving the characters room to breathe. How critical opinion on movies changes through the yearsā¦
They are really filling a gap Bond left - and then some.
Yes they areāand that is a shame (for James Bond fans and James Bond who until the last 10 years or so was the undisputed king of cinematic stunts). Of course, no 007 actor would do what Tom Cruise does and is willing to do, but nowadays the Bond stuntmen arenāt doing it eitherācertainly not like they did in the past.
The Daniel Craig Bond fight scenes are as good or better than they ever have been in the series, but most everything else stunt-wise doesnāt quite match up to what had come beforeāand that is further underscored by the Mission: Impossible filmsā superlative stunts/action scenes (not to mention suspenseful scenes either). The Mission: Impossible series has clearly outBonded Bond.
And by the way, Mission: Impossible ā Dead Reckoning Part 1 looks incredible. Canāt wait to see it.
The only person who will better Tom Cruise will be Tom Cruise. I honestly donāt know how any other action franchise could match this same level of intensity. For a 61 year old, Tom seems to be at the peak of his career and his star has only shone brighter with time. This franchise is the greatest showcase for him as an actor, and movie scholar. He does know what an audience wants and how to make them connect with whatās on the screen. And the box office proves that.
And Paramount letās out a sigh of relief.
Wow! Just wow! Just when you think you canāt get more excited for a movie then something like this comes along to top it. July 14 canāt come soon enough. ![]()
Currently sitting at 98% after 128 reviews. Cruise and McQuarrie donāt play games.
I was down at Sydney Harbour last Sunday for lunch and saw a crowd forming, so went over to check out what was happening. A few minutes later Cruise, McQuarrie, Pegg, Atwell and Klementieff were wandering past for a photo call overlooking the Opera House! A very nice surprise and added to my excitement for this for sure (also made me late for my lunch sitting!)
One has to consider, however, that Cruise is on a publicity high since last yearās TOP GUN 2, and the marketplace is wide open for a contemporary action film.
I love Cruiseās Mission movies and I imagine this one to be magnificent. But reviewers are quick to tear films apart. I predict they will not be as kind next year, simply because what goes up must come down, in their thinking.
