Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 (2023/2024)

As is the entire world of insurance…

Not quite for the insurer - today they have a range of mathematical complex models to chart nearly every risk they take down to the .01 fraction of a percent. And calculate the policy accordingly.

Insurance companies don’t actually come under pressure from one single event any more, regardless if a priceless work of art gets lost or a huge multimillion venture goes bust. Such wouldn’t even affect the annual figures a lot - if it happens with numerous policies and branches is what would set the books smouldering…

No, I appreciate that.

Large events are shared amongst multiple providers. And there are even companies that insure the insures. Notably companies that have ‘Re’ after their names. Swiss Re. Aspen Re for example.

But still, Cruise in position of a Hollywood God would have access to all this whereas NewActor would likely not.

So it´s got to be Jackie Chan ?:joy::rofl::sweat_smile:

Yes, I think indeed he’s in a unique position there; certainly not comparable to a newcomer or ‘ordinary’ actor. Perhaps not on Belmondo level, because in their day the whole business seems to have been done more like a ‘sport’ of sorts.

But actually I would like to see a complete reboot after Cruise calls it a day. And that done in a direction away from the action, more low key and suspense oriented, if that was even possible in a cinema production.

The old tv show was not all that groundbreaking; the baddy of the week was tricked by the team to get some sort of McGuffin, with the intricate plan hitting on the cliffs of reality and some improvisation saving the team and the mission. I’d like to see this updated into a thriller that largely gets by without the explosions. And with a team that’s less made of agents and more of real life characters.

Sounds interesting but is probably more suitable for TV that way…I can´t remember a great thriller in cinema with big names and low key action which did great box office for quite some time.

That’s the problem,

The first M.I. movie had not that much action (only the final with the train) and was more like the tv show.
The Ocean’s eleven movie and it’s sequels are also not action packed, so it is possible making a popular thriller without all those action scene’s.
Skyfall had not many big action scene’s too, if compared to other Bondmovies, but was and is extremely popular.

As fans of the spy genre I think we can all breathe a little bit of a sigh of relief that at the very least we will have these films look forward to over the next couple of years. In lieu of having a new Bond movie coming out these are the next best thing.

It has been a while since I saw the Ryan Gosling film, Drive.

I remember the very verrry low key car ‘chase’ which surpassingly sold itself less on speed and more on suspense. As for the rest of the film, I cannot remember if it went down the explosion route…

That sort of thing.

The irony of the Cruise injury problem was that he broke his ankle on a building jump (with cables, if I recall.) But this was also the movie that featured 87 (or something) HALO jumps with Cruise. Which stunt has higher risk? And had he already done that when he broke his ankle?

Business Insider says it was a whole 106 jumps - all done after Cruise came back from his injury. So you never can tell, a star might seriously injure himself while climbing from a car, while another just goes on and on and on after doing the most crazy stunts.

I’d love to get an updated Mission: Impossible TV series. Let’s meet some of the other members of the IMF. Something along the lines of Strike Back.

Well, if the Star Trek tv franchises take off, and the success of Discovery and Picard does bode well, I can see Paramount at the very least asking writers for pitches for Mission Impossible to get the same treatment.

Henry Czerny’s photo was just posted by Christopher Mcquarrie on his Instagram page. Looks like Kittridge is coming back!

Great news. I like it when past characters return to a long running franchise, and Kittridge goes right back to the beginning. A lot of time has passed now, so that’s also an exciting prospect.

Indeed. I was actually expecting him to make a return in Fallout and was disappointed to learn he hadn’t been cast. This is great news. I can’t wait to see what they’re cooking up. They’ve assembled some great actors for these two films. I’m very happy we have these to look forward to.

I watched Fallout again recently on a return flight home, and it was a welcome reminder just how good these films are. They have a tone that excited me about spy films as a young kid.

I’m just focused on 7 and 8 right now, which is a lot of new content to digest and discuss. The future of the franchise post 7 and 8 is still a long way off and can wait for the time being.

I’m having trouble distinguishing him from his Bob Ritter character in Clear and Present Danger. But this is exciting news. Have to watch MI '96 again.
