Movies: Presumably 2024, maybe Beyond

We’ve definitely seen enough of them. That 2014 Godzilla, its sequel, and then that team-up movie with King Kong were among some of the worst films I’ve seen in a while.

Fast Charlie or as I would name it: James Bond Retired - On Vacation

“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” said Feige. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

Not entirely sure what to make of this…

My Famous Five first (and last) contact was through the late-70s tv series, so I only have hazy memories of ‘American night’ shot daylight scenes and a succession of smuggling/espionage schemes by sufficiently exotic ‘foreigners’ which oftentimes seemed to hinge on the employ of weak-powered flashlights sending nighttime signals from the Cornish coastline.

Would I want that cherished memory be tainted by a ‘reimagining’?

They lied in that last frame.

This film is Axel-F-rated.

So this happened: people only want to watch sequels anymore.

Only if they actually go - in 2023 they very pointedly didn’t.

But it is absurd that only part 2,3,4 or reboots of familiar franchises are on the list of those movies that people will take an interest in.

When „Back to the future part 2 (!)“ made the joke about the umpteenth Jaws sequel I thought „Haha, how silly“.

Now that is the state of the cinema union.

Thanks to a recent auction I can tell you E.T. has not aged well. Good on him for not going the surgery/botox route, though…

Adolph Zukor and Jack Warner are furiously gyrating.

We are in end times. Repent.

Entirely unrelated but aptly mirroring the end-of-days holiday spirit: AQUAMAN’s sequel (and DCEU’s final entry) is panned here…

DC has done immeasurable damage to its brand by releasing these movies. If I was running the show I’d pull back and give substantial room to breathe before moving forward with anything else. But we already have James Gunn outlining a large new slate of films to the exhausted public, declaring this time things will be different. I’m not so sure about that. My money is on James Bond coming back from the dead and beating them all.
