Movies: Presumably 2024, maybe Beyond

There won’t be until there is. The studios just can’t help themselves when there’s a couple of billion dollars to be made.

I just noticed the SUPERMAN trailer has 36 million views in the last 72 hours, and that of course doesn’t count any that aren’t the official one.

Wow :muscle:

It has already surpassed Deadpool and Wolverine.

Seems as if there is really a hunger for a good Superman. I understand.

Points to Nolan for trying the unexpected. I know Disney Animation wanted to do a version of The Odyssey back in the mid 1990’s. It didn’t work, so we got The Hunchback of Notre Dame instead. Not that I’m complaining about either.

Christopher Nolan’s new film is ‘The Odyssey,’ an adaptation of the epic Homer poem for Universal, the studio has revealed.

Nolan is going to open the movie with Odysseus and Penelope lying in bed together with Argos (who doesn’t die) at their feet, and O telling her what kept him. Penelope gets very pissed about Circe.

Also drawing inspiration from the poem were James Joyce’s Ulysses

At least the article mentioned it–eventually.

Surprising.

Was hoping for his period spy thriller.

The Odyssey is a period piece, and can be quite thrilling.

I would have thought that if Nolan were going to adapt an ancient text, The Aeneid would have been more up his alley.

Thanks Mr. Hinx, but I will admit that I am Team Vergil.

Interesting, the taste of moviegoers during this Christmas.

Frenetic cartoon is more popular than cute animals, gory vampire horror has a huge opening, and Timothy Chalamet doing a really great Bob Dylan impression actually sells good tickets.

Remember the flopping counter programming with „the feel bad movie of the season“ starring DC? This year is ending on a probably fitting note at the box office.

This looks interesting, I must say:

I am all for anything Tron (yes, that means I like TRON: LEGACY).

I should rewatch it then!

Okay, but you know how out-there my tastes can be LOL.

I am actually using it in February in a Buddhist class I co-facilitate.

Now that’s what makes me want to rewatch it even more.

I love the first TRON, liked the second, so it won’t be a chore anyway.

You might consider allowing the first two verses of the Dhammapada float around in your mind as you watch:

All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.

If that were true the incoming administration would be too much in pain to stand.

Having rewatched LEGACY now I have to say I loved it so much more than on my first viewing when it was released.

Apart from being visually breathtaking, it really develops the themes and the story of the first film further and becomes a clear critique of capitalism and the other dangers we‘re facing now: the misunderstanding of total freedom turning into populism and authoritarianism.

It is also about doing nothing when evil forces arise, and I wonder why I only picked up on this now. Was I so naive back then that I thought this is just the umpteenth repeat of a science fiction baddie?

Releasing „Tron: Ares“ now is probably perfect timing. We all know what Ares means.

By the way: the programmer who is even more cynical than the new CEO is played by Cilian Murphy! Great casting. And reportedly he is continuing in that role in the new film.
