It amazes me that 72 hours after the announcement and Christopher Nolan hasn’t popped up in any rumour. He isn’t working on any project at the moment, is he?
The Aston Martins, the Rolex’s, the gambling with government funds…all in the line of duty
Maybe his oft said stance of wanting to be involved when they next do a big shake up rather than continuing on the current one finally sunk in with the tabloid press.
Not holding my breath for that though…
I’ve read the words “Off the Boyle” too many times in the last 48 hours to judge you too much for that.

Nolan is on record of only being interested in a reboot with a new actor. I would be devastated if he’s not the director of Bond 26.

While I do think Nolan directing a Bond film would be grand I don’t want him to come in and reboot everything replacing M, Q, and Moneypenny with new actors. New actor, new tone, old support crew for the sake of continuity even though it could be very loose.

Yes, as mentioned here, we all (well, most of us in some respects) would like to see Nolan take a crack at it as he has in some respects with the DK trilogy, but he should keep the old guard trifecta of the current Bond ‘family’ of M, Q and Moneypenny as they did with Lazenby to make it acceptable and smoother, but give it that punch that Bond is still Bond and carrying on the mantle of 007 and business as usual as was also done to a point with Moore and Dalton and Bosnan. No reboot. It could be done very smoothly with the Craig timeline.
I’m not entirely convinced why they need to keep Craig. I’m very ready for a new actor to take the role.

Now the question would be if Demange and Mackenzie have already been approached.
No surprise - he is deep into prep for the second season of “Big little lies”.
I guess MacKenzie and Demange will be the most likely candidates.
My wishful thinking that EON already had a successor for Boyle in place, of course, turns out to be wrong. 
And working on the Yoko Ono Lennon film too.
They really are scrambling around trying to find someone aren’t they? But everyone seems busy!

We dont know that they dont, as we dont know WHEN Vallee said he couldnt do it, just that he did.
Edit: Had a look at the original article from canadian tv, basically an entertainment journalist on the equivalent of Good Morning Britain phoned Vallee’s son and asked if deadlines speculation was true. He said “it was, they asked but he couldnt do it” no dates where mentioned. So that takes us back to Deadlines article which quite rightly points out that BB and MGW play things very close to the chest so we’re unlikly to know until they want us to.

Then again, if Eon had a replacement for Boyle already secured they would certainly not delay announcing it. It’s not like they can simply take their time and consider all possible options at leisure; BOND 25 is effectively right in its countdown phase and ready to take off. There’s already a small army of people concerned with preparations. And all of them are now nervous to hear how things are expected to proceed or not.
In this specific situation I doubt Eon would delay announcing what everybody wants to hear: that production will proceed as planned, BOND 25 will stick to schedule and make its release date in 2019. As long as this announcement doesn’t come it probably means there is not yet agreement on Boyle’s successor and/or he/she hasn’t signed yet.
Certainly the longer the gap between them announcing Boyle’s departure and announcing a replacement does move it from “controlling the narrative” to “He what? Ah crap”
At least one can safely assume that Boyle´s departure did not automatically cause a production delay.
Which means: they are actively trying to keep the release date.
Which means: they really are asking agents and contacts to urge their clients to voice their interest.
There might be several directors now reading the P&W script with notes by EON, with timetables of the production and, of course, fees.
Honestly, I cannot imagine that any young director eager to get his shot at the big league would turn this down.
If a director cannot be found now I suspect it would be because EON or Daniel Craig (or both) just don’t want to pursue BOND 25 with its current ideas. Which would be strange because it will be their ideas and input which had been given to P&W to develop.
So - this is the make or break point for BOND 25. If this does not come together soon, the chance of keeping Craig would not only be slim but also rather pointless. The market will rather react to a new Bond than another CraigBond in two or three or four years or whenever the favored writer/director will manage to keep everybody happy.
My personal preference: Keep BOND 25 on schedule for a release in November 2019. And if that is not possible, recast and reboot automatically, so at least BOND 25 can be in cinemas in 2020.
I would even accept Nolan than. Just to get this idea out of everybody’s system and have a new Bond film to watch. Yes, I’m that selfish.
Oh, and one more thing: the whole plan to announce Craig´s return in 2017 for a release date two years later still feels funny to me. They must have had some director in mind, waiting for him to start in 2018 - and this then must have fallen through, too.
