Thanks, makes sense. I was unaware of of pitch versions being available. I’ll have to check that out. Wish we’d hear something soon before the rumors get to the outlandish phase.
I imagine that Romer only was considered because Fukunaga was familiar with him and wanted him to get a chance. But everybody, including Romer, will have known that his style would be not immediately clicking with a Bond film.
I doubt that he got the chance to already record the score with an orchestra since that mostly happens when the edit is nearing completion, and I suppose that this will not happen until early March (with SFX being delivered late in the game). So Romer will have presented a layout, a demo - but these days these already sound pretty great. But EON now always can refer to Serra´s score to justify why a Bond film needs more of the traditional elements to succeed.
Personally, I wonder: wouldn’t Romer have tried to deliver just that? He must have known what EON was looking for.
I mean he did the soundtrack to the videogame Far Cry 5, which was a thoroughly traditional Americana soundtrack so its not like hes incapable of more traditional sounds - I think it might be a bit of a Boyle situation where he and Fukunaga had an idea and EON had another and maybe Romer said it would be better for someone else to take over when EON refused it. I doubt its because he’s too wacky and zany for them - its not like they’re hiring some maverick avant garde composer
I actually don’t hate Indy 4 like most. It’s absurd certainly, but it never is trying to not be. IMO, the aliens aren’t really an issue with the story. The story is very much a 50s story not a 30s one like the original trilogy of films. Aliens are front and center with a lot of sci-fi in the 50s and for that reason, the aliens don’t feel out of place in a 1950s Indy story (calling them interdimensional beings was stupid though).
Temple of Doom has some nearly unforgivable issues that Raiders and Last Crusade don’t (the racism, Kate Capshaw), but I find it a very fun movie and a great break from the mold of the other Indy films.
Exactly. It’s like hiring Chopin to write a symphony.
This gave me a chuckle

Do they know that’s the Tussaud’s statue of Craig in that photo?
No, that’s Bond still dreaming/in shock after the torture scene from SPECTRE.
Feels very nice to say there’s a new Bond film this year😁
This spring even. It’s practically around the corner now!
A mere 92 days to go in the UK!
Yeah, I’m already dreading that week between UK and US releases - it’s going to be a long one
looks like we may find out the date of the London World Premiere next week:
Absolutely fantastic - can’t wait to see these two on stage - and I hope they meet up. Nine films between them and a total of 25 years. They have kept the brand alive for all that time and I’m thankful. Certainly a huge part of my childhood and now adult life.
It’s not as bad as some of the previous films: the UK and US releases Quantum of Solace and Skyfall were 2 weeks apart, and Spectre was 11 days, I believe. Casino Royale, on the other hand, was only a day apart.
Grain of salt/TBC until EON announce of course but they are one of the go to portals for red carpet premiere info…looks like April 1 is the date for the London World Premiere. They updated the site today with the info: https://www.averagesocialite.com/international-events/2019/9/9/no-time-to-die-premiere-tba
I would not be surprised if akin to Spectre, they do opening night ‘previews’ nationwide then simultaneous with the premiere, ahead of general release on Thursday the 2nd. Like what will be happening for the US release on the 10th - Thursday night previews on the 9th.
Since I have not been here a for a while, and all of you talking about the score to NO Time To Die.
I hope that the score will be well be similar or in the tradition of these from past movies. But NOT a copy cat at all.
White Knight(Tomorrow Never Dies)
Backseat Driver(Tomorrow Never Dies)
Cortina(For Your Eyes Only)
Mujahadin And Opium(The Living Daylights)
Air Bond(The Living Daylights)
Hercules Takes Off(The Living Daylights)
The Goldeneye Overture (Part I: Half Of Everything Is Luck, Goldeneye)
Grand Bazaar, Istanbul(Skyfall)
If there another song in the movie that not the main title song. Hopefully in the similar or in the tradition of these two song. Again NOT a copy cat at all. Whether it the end credit or not like in the middle of the movie.
The Experience Of Love(Goldeneye)
If There Was A Man(The Living Daylights)
I’m very happy that there is a paramilitay scene in this movie. Hopefully it will be a very good one, with a very good score to it.
That’s an impressive selection of tracks. I might also add
Snow Job (unreleased bonus track from The World Is Not Enough)
Licence Revoked (Licence to Kill) – perhaps for the paramilitary scene
