News on NO TIME TO DIE (no spoilers)

They are also responsible for Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace.

SO great to finally get confirmationā€¦ I had a feeling we would be getting an official announcement any day. Universal is a good choice for the international distribution in my book. Funny they didnā€™t say whether this is just a one film deal or multi film. I guess it will depend on how successful Bond 25 is. :sunglasses:

Universalā€™s pockets are pretty deep especially with Jurassic World and the Fast and the Furious movies. I think itā€™s a good fit. Though Iā€™m confused as to why Sony never outright bought MGM to take over the Bond seriesā€¦

Iā€™d say Fleming was mainly responsible for CRā€¦

Thereā€™s also Oscar winning screenwriter Paul Haggis being hired from the kick off. So how much of CR can p&w take credit for?

As for SF, Logan did the first draft I believe and there after Butterworth doctorā€™s it. So again, how to discern who did what?

Theyā€™re solely responsible for Let Him Have It, 27 years ago and recently Johnnie English Strikes Againā€¦!

And also SS-GB.

Their solo work tells me theyā€™ve a knack for cliche, broad humour and humourless, bull and hackneyed drama - - again, broad.

Theyā€™re obviously Flemings officianardos, but thatā€™s no reason alone to write bond scripts or weā€™d all be at it. Imo itā€™s a combo of being huge fans and having developed a working relationship with Eon that keeps them in the mix.

But what Iā€™m guessing is mainly on their side are diaries; those of good writers are always going to be full unless you book well in advance.

Whereas p&w are probably always available to BBā€™s whims. Thatā€™s an attractive quality in an industry of busy screenwriters. An attractive quality when the producer wants to alter aspects of the script that the original screenwriter isnā€™t comfortable with.

Canā€™t believe this hasnā€™t been posted yet:

check the news on Bond 25 threadā€¦

Mod note: topics merged

Wow, this is all a bit snobby, isnā€™t it? Thereā€™s stuff you guys love in the Bonds of the last nineteen years, which P&W wrote. Thereā€™s also stuff you donā€™t like which was written by Logan or Haggis We donā€™t know who wrote what. Personally, Oscars donā€™t impress me.

Personally, Iā€™m just happy to finally get some concrete news. Weā€™ve been so starved that its just nice to hear somethingā€¦

Indeed, I also wonder why they did not say ā€žfinalā€œ. They probably hope he will return againā€¦

P & W were responsible for QoS? Not Paul Haggis?

All 3 werenā€™t they?

Think of it this way:

They drew a circle,
Haggis made a square out of it,
and then others coloured it while adding bits and pieces.

Itā€™s also good the release date hasnā€™t changed. I was beginning to think it might.

Agreed.

What I will say for Forsterā€™s quick-cut style is that itā€™s at least far more coherent than what Greengrass was doing with the Bourne films. While Iā€™m sure that there is some shaky-cam at work in QoS, a lot of it is just very quick cuts between mostly balanced and stable camera shots. It produces a very similar effect, but I like it far more because, at least for me, the onset of mild motion sickness that sometimes accompanies Greengrassā€™ and other similar pieces of work isnā€™t present with what Forster did in QoS. Itā€™s also easier to follow whatā€™s happening on screen, for the most part (although, the boat chase has its issues at times).

Iā€™d love to see what Forster could have done with perhaps a bit more time to work on the film in post as well as a fully developed script and access to writers during the production. Even absent those things, he still delivered a top-tier Bond film in my book.

In order to put the whole ā€œthis is an unusually rushed productionā€ issue to rest for good, I did a little digging.

It will actually be the 2nd earliest start of the Craig eraā€¦

Casino Royale Jan 3
Quantum of Solace Jan 3
Skyfall Nov 11
Spectre Dec 8
Bond 25 Dec 4

So there :yum:

This has been the typical turn around time for Bond films. Which makes it strange that the gap between films has been getting longer and longer.

No snobbery here!

You wrote:

ā€˜Mainlyā€™ seems a stretch, since, as i said in my reply to you:

But look, in your reply to me - the one above in which you call me a snob - you go on to write:

So, really youā€™ve agreed with me! Whilst simultaneously contradicting yourself by first saying that P&W ā€˜mainlyā€™ wrote CR and SF and then saying that ā€˜We donā€™t know who did whatā€™.

Hmm, hope i donā€™t sound like a snob

It wasnā€™t just you i was replying to, friend. It has been said elsewhere on this forum that P&W wrote most of Casino Royale, though we donā€™t know precisely which scenes. We know a little: the Venice sequence, for example, wasnā€™t theirs. This has been discussed before. Search it, if you like.
