Bach, hence the casting of the film’s leading lady (OK that’s a stretch).
Tosca was cut to ribbons, but then it is in Quantum of Solace, so that was inevitable.
The references seem to have been far more direct and part of the narrative, or at least weigh more heavily, in the Craigs. They might go all out and call Bond 25 Morte d’Agent.
I suppose there is a difference between pandering to the smugs in the audience (i.e. me) by otherwise unnecessarily naming a Russian general after a Russian author, and actually going full Eat-my-Tosca-bitch at us, however much bits of the plot of Tosca sort-of chime with what Bond and the girl are up to in that one.
How important a Stradivarius ends up being in The Living Daylight’s would indicate someone at EON has been fighting for some time to make Bond more high minded/pretentious
Ha! I suspect that she herself recommended this one - although her hubby´s “Octopus´ Garden” would have worked, too. But they even missed that boat a few years later again.
Thanks to the three of you for this very welcome distraction from the tedium of inputting alcohol delivery notes.
I have nothing to add to it, unless the clunky Napoleon references littered throughout the earlier movies, although they come from Fleming so actually are sacrosanct.
I wouldn’t say they are sacrosanct just because they come from Fleming. There is plenty of material from the Fleming novels that is uncomfortable to read in 2019 that you can’t use the “It was a different time” argument for.
I’m inclined to change my stance and say Bond is alone in Jamaica. Fishing, boating and driving around by himself, etc. Just an observation here and nothing more, but we also saw island Luke fishing, and glimpses of his daily routine, in The Last Jedi.
