Rank the Young Bond villains

Returning to the rankings of James Bond, this week’s category is Young Bond villains.

So how do you rank them? My ranking is:

  1. Audacto Solares – HEADS YOU DIE – (Steve Cole) – A mad and powerful villain who doesn’t even let his daughter get in the way of his quest for more power. Very entertaining and a great villain.

  2. Ugo Carnifex – BLOOD FEVER – (Charlie Higson) – A unique villain who’s severely disturbed by any visible uncleanness around him. He’s a bit mad, but in a good way. A very memorable bad guy.

  3. Irina Sedova – DOUBLE OR DIE – (Charlie Higson) – This Soviet mastermind has some shades of Rosa Klebb. Another unique villain, she has an interesting rapport with James Bond and their final confrontation is a highlight.

  4. La Velada – RED NEMESIS – (Steve Cole) – This character makes a welcome return after first appearing in Heads You Die. She is not QUITE as effective here as she was in her more mysterious debut, but it is still a solid and evil performance. A good villain.

  5. Theda Glass – HURRICANE GOLD – (Charlie Higson) – Glass is not so much evil as just an industrial spy doing her job. However, she is not above kidnapping children to help get what she wants. Yet another unique villain. I really like her, although she is more solid than spectacular.

  6. Perseus Friend – BY ROYAL COMMAND – (Charlie Higson) – Another returning character. Seemingly killed in SilverFin, he makes a surprising return here and, with it, holds a burning hatred for James. Very effective.

  7. Konstantin Grünner – STRIKE LIGHTNING – (Steve Cole) – A German general intent on creating the ultimate super-weapon for World War II. Not seen a whole lot in the story and doesn’t stand out very much, but he does have a very satisfying death scene.

  8. Randolph Hellebore – SILVERFIN – (Charlie Higson) – A braggadocio blowhard who tries to dominate or bully everyone around him. Not a likable sort, but a good villain, just not among my favorites.

  9. Anton Kostler – SHOOT TO KILL – (Steve Cole) – This guy may be more unlikable than Hellebore. A film studio head whose side venture is producing snuff films. He also doesn’t do a whole lot more than that so he ends up on the bottom of this list.
