Good points…
Also, who really cares what people say on the internet?
A new Bond film will come and world wide audiences will gladly pay to see it.
JAMES BOND WILL RETURN
This may sound awful but I’m glad they are hurt. That’s the reaction I would want because it shows the audience cares about the character. If they cast someone great as the next Bond there’s a good chance the embrace of the brand will be more meaningful than before. Time helps heal wounds, and I’m positive the same will be true here. It wasn’t Sean Connery, Roger Moore or any other Bond standing on the burning deck. It was Daniel Craig’s. One James Bond in a greater ocean of others.
I know why they killed him. It’s obvious that Craig’s hands are all over that decision. But I question the point of doing so if you’re not going to let that moment linger for a bit. Recasting sometime in 2022 robs that moment of the weight that such a monumental moment in the franchise both deserves and requires.
I’d agree with you, dalton, if we hadn’t just had an almost six year gap since SP. In my ideal Craig timeline, we’d have had 7 or 8 entries beginning with CR in '06 and ending with NTTD in '21, and then the series could lie dormant for a while. But given how things played out in reality, I’d rather they just move forward with Bond 26 asap.
Casino Royale, unlike Dr No, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Live and Let Die, The Living Daylights and Goldeneye established a time line is happening, Skyfall emphasised it. Craig’s run had a beginning, then a middle so it ne…
…eded an actual end. Craig’s run was an experiment in change, one I think worked, but I’m aware a loud (and very…small…) group in the corner want Bond to just be a camp comfort blanket of “the good old days” that never existed
I just can’t get on board with this. As you say, killing off the central character of a 60 year franchise is next level. But they wanted Craig back for one more and that was the price of doing business.
This does not mean you then get to shut down the franchise for 5 years or what ever. You are MGW & BB, you’re entire function in life is to produce Bond movies. Don’t even shape you mouth to tell me you need more than two years between films. These two are the poster children for “you had one job”.
You wanted DC back and you had to pay his price (the death of his Bond). Don’t cry about it now. Get back to work and make me a Bond movie. And while you’re at it, I want one every two years. You have one job, it’s your entire function.
Two years isn’t realistic. The best we can hope for is three. These productions are too big now, too expensive, and too expansive to do in two.
And the reason they haven’t been two isn’t due to Barbara and Michael. They offered $100M to DC for two films. He balked. MGM, Mendes, and Daniel Craig are the reasons we’ve had to wait more than two years the last four movies. And the two year gaps gave us TND, TWINE, and QOS. Take 3-4 years and give us GE, CR, SF, and NTTD.
MGW and Babs aren’t the problem here.
TWINE is in my top 5 and QoS was a writer’s strike thing not a two year gap thing. And unless I’m misreading the dates, the two year gap was standard until Craig (with the exception of GE).
I’m sure DC, Mendez, and the $ amount were factors, but the final call was BB’s. In any event, DC is done. So they can go back to two years.
Your perspective on these things is troubling.
And for the umpteenth time: Bond‘s death was not the price for Craig‘s return, it was talked about already during the prep for CR.
You are not only misreading, you should check the facts first. Look at the gaps between TMWTGG and TSWLM or between TWINE and DAD.
Making movies in the 1970s or 90s is a totally different set of financial circumstances than making movies in the 2020s. Broccoli waited for Sam Mendes to do his play before Skyfall. Daniel Craig waited two years before he even said he’d do a fifth.
As for QoS and TWINE, I like TND more than any Brosnan film, but will acknowledge that’s not what the majority of fans think. And my point is made with QoS, MGW and Barbara wanted to make movies every two years. External forces have prevented them from that. Hopefully, the Amazon deal secures stable financing for EON and they can get on with making Bond.
People need to get over the character death. Chances are we get Bond 26 in less time than it took GE, NTTD, and maybe even CR. Resurrection is his hobby.
Ayep. Saw those. Those are the exceptions.
It’s troubling to want a Bond movie every two years when that’s literally all BB and MGW are supposed to be doing? Huh.
It’s troubling that you said delivering Bond films is their only job in life.
And the two year rhythm is not feasible anymore. You know that.
Only job in their professional life. My bad.
I think what is troubling is that, at times, your expectation comes across as entitlement. This can become problematic, as seen in some toxic Star Wars communities. For what it is worth, my take is that I would love a film every 2 years, but I accept that this is unlikely due to the realities of modern film making.
The bottom line is that Babs and Mike are making and selling a product that we can choose to buy into… or not. We can give feedback and share opinions on the product that they offer. We cannot reduce them to the status of servants whose only function is to satisfy our demands. Personally and professionally they are entitled to make the choices that they see are fit. Personally, I applaud their stewardship of Bond and appreciate their hard work.
Ok. Here’s what happened.
I was chilling out last night watching DAF and FRWL (to finish my marathon). And a I normally do I’m checking out the forum as well. It’s fun to do these things together.
So then I started to notice a couple of things 1) the Malek hate was starting to spiral out if control, and 2) the notion that CraigBond death should somehow be logically tied to a 4 or 5 year break.
Neither of these things make a ton of sense to me and I got a little saucy about it.
DAF will do that to you…
