LOL. Truth.
Nothing wrong with getting saucy⌠Bond is built on lashings of the stuff!
In a slower paced world, lingering is allowable and understandable. Given the frenetic pace of todayâs society, no endingâBond alive/dead/married/childless/in a throuple with Q and his boyfriendâwas not going to be afforded space to linger. It is bravely on the next-new-shiny-thing, and damn the lingering.
Watching DAF with other, less sublime Bonds can be hazardous. As Martha reminds us:
New Bond meets someone in the field:
âI heard youâd died, Mr. Bond.â
[Deadpan:] âYes, I heard that too.â
Scene continues.
He only lives twice.
I canât be the only one who wants Zombie BondâŚ
1000 times this. Something akin to this would be perfect. Like âthis never happened to the other fellowâ. Hat tip/wink/nod/salute and move on.
âIt was a childrenâs book by M. Swann.â
I still like the idea someone had in one of the discussions around here. Canât remember who it was, but the idea was that they could have made Bondâs fate in NTTD a bit more ambiguous and then have the new Bond introduced with a scene being a twist on Flemingâs TMWTGG opening, but with Bond not being brainwashed but sent to assassinate Fiennesâ M for the crimes heâs committed in NTTD. I think, if done right, that could have been a pretty cool opening for a new Bond. Definitely one that would get peoplesâ attention.
I agree that it wasnât the price for Craigâs return. But to labor on that point for a second, no actor should be able to make that demand as the price for their involvement in the film. The death of one of the greatest screen characters of all time should not be done on the whim of any actor who has played the character, regardless of how great he has been.
As far as Bond being their only professional job. Weâve already seen that thatâs not at all the case. They did that play a few years ago as well as The Rhythm Section. Granted, that film was beyond dreadful, but it was something that theyâve done professionally that wasnât Bond. It also shows that Barbara Broccoli seems to be keen to have at least some kind of professional life outside of Bond.
That was me.
To be clear: Craig never, not even during prep for CR, was reported to have said âI will only play him if this happens.â It was discussed as a possibility, probably because it had not been done before, and his era was aiming to break with tradition.
As far as it was reported, however, Harrison Ford only returned to his Han Solo role because he wanted him to die. He asked for it in ROTJ, did not have the power then. Now he did.
Was that a good idea? I actually think so.
Also Film Stars Donât Die in Liverpool. A box office flop but was better received and did get some award recognition. Barbara Broccoli wants to spread her wings as a producer but still needs Bond to generate reliable hits.
She also produces a lot of theatre outside the three productions sheâs done with Craig.
Interesting that the idea was discussed so early. As it stands Bondâs death feels like heâs following in the footsteps of Wolverine and Iron Man. Itâs sort of like the reboot/ early years idea in that regard discussed earlier (MGW floated the idea after Mooreâs departure) but by the time it was implemented another franchise got there first.
Sad how 007 has gone from being a trend-setter to camp follower. (Of course, that didnât start recently. Moonraker was perhaps the first to bow to trends - unless you want to give that honour to LALD.)
âŚ.you might want to watch North by Northwest before suggesting Bond has ever been the trendsetterâŚ
Mooreâs earlier films all had moments of following the current movie flavor that was trending:
LALD followed the then-current blaxploitation movie trend.
TMWTGG followed the then-current Kung Fu movie trend.
MR followed the then-current Star Wars movie trend.
Also, QoS and Bourne. Dark Knight/Batman and Skyfall. Spectre and Marvel
So we donât yet know which trend Bond 26 will follow?
