Reboot? Remake? Retro? Which direction should the series take next?

And then: what were they thinking? They have no idea what Bond is!

Screenrant, ever the people to fail at a perfunctory google search, should have found out that PWB is busy heading up Amazon’s Tomb Raider series, so would not have the time to do Bond or the (definitely was never going to happen and was said so several times…) Indiana Jones spin off.

It’s actually kind of scary how many people want them gone. I know it’s a Twitter (forget X, Elon Musk, you real life Bond villain), poll, but it seems that people are fed up with them. They can’t be blamed for all the problems of their movies, but their trademarks are getting noticeable. How can Bond leave MI6 again, being their biggest offender. I’m not trying to upset people, or get in fights about them again, but the writing really needs to change with the films.

If they wrote spectre

They didn’t. QOS either.

If only I can put my finger on which two Craig movies got the worst reviews…but, hey it’s not like google and Wikipedia exist.

I’d like to see someone new just because we need new blood. P&W have done really well. But a clean break from the norm might be in order for a new Bond. I hope the current MI6 brigade stays (albeit without the M is the true villain angle, maybe Mallory needs to go). But let’s start fresh with a new production team.

They came in to fix Spectre would John Logan couldn’t do it and they were unable to write QoS as a result of the 2007-08 writers’ strike (that movie should’ve been delayed to 2009).

Like I said, they can’t be blamed for all the problems of their movies. Moviemaking is a group process. However, even Richard Maibaum took breaks, his choice or not. It’s like EON doesn’t even try with new writers though, sometimes. Particularly in the DC era. They are actually decent ideas-men, and always try to go to Fleming, to their credit. However, NOTHING in the Bond movies series needs to change more than the writing, their fault or not.

Of course, if they hire Christopher Nolan it’s academic. The man wrote all but one of his films - and even there he did uncredited rewrites.

Itā€˜s not scary because X is not representative AT ALL.

X is just a platform to spew misinformation.

Not trying to get anyone’s hopes up. But click on Michael and Barbara’s picture. Possible announcement from EON for James Bond Day on Thursday.

I’ve seen this happen before, speculation about an announcement on a certain day gets out of hand then then people get angry when it doesn’t happen. Let’s not go down this route.

That’s a good point. Also, the writers’ strike just ended so, if anything, pre-production would likely only just be getting started. I doubt we’ll get any kind of an update before 2024 and we won’t be seeing Bond 26 until at least 2026. If, I’m wrong (and I kind of hope I am), I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I guess it depends how far along they were before the WGA strike, Eon tend to pretend they’re doing nothing until the day they announce a whole load of things. I don’t think they are at that point yet, but I do think they are further along than they’ll let us know yet.

Like I said, just something I noticed. I hope it’s something (along with Charlie Higson’s book talk) that will get us excited. I kind of hope it’s not Road to a Million related. Or that Purvis and Wade are writing the next Bond, and that’s it.

Season 2 of that has been announced already, so it can’t be that surely?!?!

Higson writing another would probably be IFP

IF Eon are announcing something, it would need to be film related - even if it’s just a concert?

Again, just thinking out loud

I agree that it’s unlikely to be book related (though an announcement of a 4th Horowitz book would be welcome) especially as IFP and EON don’t appear to get along very well.

Agreed. (That said, I’ll still be refreshing my browsers on James Bond Day like a madman).

I hope something of relevance happens. Maybe an announcement of the movie director. Because a new director would have to be involved in the decision of the new 007.

Since the start of the reality show is imminent it probably will only be that.

Maybe sweat shirts in the 007 store, too.

I think Horowitz said he’s done. He probably wants to go out on high note. I still think that with Charlie Higson being at all these Bond events, he’s got something planned for a possible future book announcement. It’s a shame that IFP & EON aren’t getting along. There’s just a few continuation novels that deserve to be made by EON. Each continuation author (who wrote at least two) has one deserving of cinematic glory.

As for Road to a Million, it’s not something that I’m looking forward to, sadly. I know some Bond fans were upset with Kim Sherwood and her spinoff series. That however, was a risk that felt worthwhile. It expands the Bond Literary Universe. RTAM brings Bond into reality television, something I fight against in my industry. Imagine if Guy Hamilton and Tom Mankiewicz were working on the series again. They’d probably make fun of the US with a reality show that has a woman bimbo. I won’t badmouth it yet, but I feel that between rehiring Purvis and Wade and straying into reality television, EON could be making better choices.
